Default What is the state of ETW?

Ive never purchased ETW. Ive just played it for couple of hours at a friends house.
I just couldnt stomach the era warfare. Was it ETW that caused it I honestly dont know. But Ive thrown thousands of hours in all other TW games.
Im asking now is ETW in a decent enough state or has it improved the representation of the era? Or should I just go for NTW? Because I dont want to risk my cash for a game that will gather dust due to my disliking of the whole shoot at each other nonsense....(thats my view after ETW trial)

Well you should have bought it when Steam was preactically giving it away. Because of the Suicide Generals and Middle Line rush attack on artillery by the AI in NTW, I would say that at this point ETW is better than NTW.

If you can pick up Empire for less than $20, you are getting a good deal IMO.

ETW is a good game. Much more epic scope than NTW I believe, NTW does have some nice improvements but ETW is more grand. Get Empire first before you decide to splash out on NTW.
"Muscovy", as its rulers have previously called it, is a sleeping giant, with age-old traditions and ways of doing things. Here, the feudal way of life has become so entrenched that the serfs are as tied to the land as cattle, and with almost as few rights. It is a vast, deeply conservative and religious country: Mother Russia and the Orthodox Church are the two pillars of national belief. The Tsar may be the father of his people, but by tradition and practice he is a stern parent. Ivan the Terrible was well named, and he has not been the only ruler with an iron will. Russia is the "Third Rome". The last bastion of Orthodox Christianity.

    Hi there.
ETW as of now (5 patches, 5 dlc's and the multiplayer campaign) is a very good game. If you get it all, there will be an abundance of entertainment and challenges waiting for you. Worth it ? OHH Yes it is.

Opinions if ETW is good or not differ, I believe that it is not a good title if you like games with a somewhat challenging AI that behaves in a logical way. I regret buying the game completely, even after 5 patches.

The AI still needs a lot of work, but that isn't to say the game is without merit. Multi-player is a lot of fun for me, and the campaign can be fun, even if it's easy.

On steam it's $30. If you can't find it cheaper, I'd go with NTW for only $10 more. That would be a better buy right now.

ETW is the alpha version and NTW is the BETA version, so i guess you should wait for the real game

the game pretty much works now.
however it has serious flaws. sieges and how the ai behaves in them are so silly that its killing all the emersion there is.
so do land battles - if the ai fortifies its cannons. you can simply walk around them and kill them from behind without them firing a single cannonball.
sea battles are incredibly monotonous, slow and boring yet the most exciting and challanging part of the battle map.
the campaign map stuff works and is acually entertaining. however only playing the campaign part and autoresolving the battlemap part is not TW anymore. it was the mix of both that made it awesome. playing the battle map part is just annoying and sad to watch. now if this was a zombie game the ai would do a good job on the battlefield.

    resume is:
i bought it for 10 bucks as a deal. it was worth 10 bucks finding out that the game is rather boring and to me lost all the addictiveness i was used to since mtw 1 + vi
