I started a GB campaign this past weekend, a "for real" one.
On the first turn I started moving my starting British spy, to Paris. Once there he established a spy network, but more importantly he immediately began hitting the French college, sabotaging when it was up, assasinating their gentlemen there when offered. Moved him back to Paris after every sabotage/assassination to maintain his spying.
I don't think the French have had any research to speak of now for 3 1/2 years, and their lacking of that, combined with my total control of the seas and tradepoints, has allowed me to field 4 full stack battle armies now advancing toward Paris....and the college.
The lowly spy (like in Stratego) can be a game changer if used properly.
