Default AI was scared of my cannon :)

The battle AI continues to impress me with little things that it does. First of course was the tactical retreats. Then is was forming lines on my flank and coming at me at two angles. Then last night I was fighting the Greeks. I was attacking a large force of line infantry that was moving into Yugoslavia. I had 4 units of cannon (12 guns) along my line, well protected by infantry in the V formation. The Greeks were hidden behind a hill. They started to climb over it to meet my line. When they did I let loose. My guns cut many of their units to pieces. They then stopped halfway to my lines, turned around and ran back over the hill, and reformed beyond it. They realized my position and decided it was better to let me come to them since I was attacking. So I did, and lost a good amount of men to their line infantry. But it was impressive that the Greek army didnt linger in no mans lands getting eaten alive by round shot like they did in Empire.

that's actually a cheat for the ai... i noticed it in many battles

u have the enemy coming at u, when the enemy comes in range for the artillery fire u click on them to make the artillery shot and EVEN BEFORE ANY CANNONBALL IS SHOOT they start to retreat and go out of the range, then u say stop tp ur artillery and the ai start coming back... when they cross the red line u order the artillery to shoot and the ai cheats again 'cause she know when u say to your artillery to shoot nd when u don't (i would be quite ok and impressed if they decided to retreat AFTER they received at least one cannonball in the face... but how can they possibly know that i ordered my artillery to fire BEFORE they actually do?).

then u have to tell ur artillery to NOT shoot untill the enemy is far beyond the red line of the artillery range... then they can't retreat anymore 'cause they will be hitted anyway and so they keep coming and suffer ur fire.

it's a good idea poorly implemented... it's unrealistically that the ai know when u'r going to shot before u actually do and then react to make things harder to u and to look smart... that's not ai improvement.
i could be ok with it, but don't be impressed by ai cheating

how is it a cheat..unless you are deaf blind and dumb you can see them reading artillery to fire.. so why not leave the area

oh well, if that wasn't the case it's good to hear that at least some time they actually react on what u do and not to what they magically know that u want to do.... seriously, i'm not ironic

I think what gord meant was the AI marched into his cannon's Line of Fire, took casualties and retreated to the hills and waited for him to come to them

If it had been the mind-reading cannon-shot bug, then they wouldn't have entered the range in the first place, hmm?

Actually it was like this in empire too. Sometimes u can force an ai enemy to attack by attacking with cannons through clikcing on a unit but, if u Change your target to the ground, the enemy will move back out of range. It also works post engagement like was said. To get around this incredible annoyance, I generally switch my attacks between unit targetted and ground targetted.

Did you save the replay? Maybe the best way to share your experience with other users. As long as they don't have made any changes to the AI the battle should turn out the same.

Now if we can only get the AI to stay put when its suppose to be defending and not wig out and attack you because 1 cannon ball hits his line...

Hopefully they can adress this... Sometimes I would actually know what its like to be the actual attacker and plan on my own type of flank attacks, and stuff.

Right now you have to play multi player to be the attacker. And trust me nobody in Multi wants to be the attacker... But multi sucks. LOL.
