Default Emulation software and Company of Heroes

    Error Code 10104

When trying to install the patch I get "Error 10104" with a message saying: the patch may be corrupt or the file being patched is different...

I've tried every one of the steps, except cleaning my registry and testing memory, with no success. I finally gave up and played different games, etc.

    Now I'm trying again...

Toward the bottom of the trouble-shooting instructions is this line:

Remove ANY emulation software completely: Alcohol, DaemonWare, Roxio. Clean the registry, run clean boot, and patch.
I don't think I have any "emulation software" and have never even heard of those that're listed (Alcohol, etc) however...I remembered from trying to install Fallout 3 that "emulation software" may be related to PC gamepads...but I don't really know.

In an effort to try anything I unplugged my 360 controller from the PC. I got a new message this time saying: "Emulation software detected please disable..."

I had already unplugged it. I went to the Device Manager to "disable" it but I couldn't find it listed anywhere.

Doesn't unplugging the controller disable it? Do I have to uninstall the...something...related to the controller? I have a vague recollection of something downloading/installing when I plugged up the controller, do I have to remove whatever that was?

Should I clean my registry? If so, how? Please give detailed step-by-step instructions...as if you were explaining to a 4yo child with a learning disability who doesn't speak the same language as you

How do I test my memory? I'll need instructions for this in the simplest language possible.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I must repeat that I need things explained in the simplest terms. Do not assume I know where folders are or have even rudimentary knowledge. I understand plug-n-play.

I would uninstall any application that allows you to burn/copy CD's (like Nero Burning Rom) as these often come with virtual drives as an option which is probably what that application is suspicious off.

Check through Add/Remove programmes (can be found in the control Panel) and see if you see any software in there that you don't recognise and check that non of them have anything to do with copying or burning discs. You obviously have something installed that's related to CD emualtion otherwise you wouldn't be getting this error message.

I don't know what "steam" is.

How exactly would that allow me to patch the game?

steam sells coh right? download n install steam. you may have to register for an account if this is your first time using steam. start it up, go to my games tap, at the buttom of this page you will have 2 options, choose activate a product on steam. follow the instructions. you may have to download the entire game. I have never tried out the add non steam game option. so I got no info on that, try it on your own risk.

remember, this account is very important. all games you register using the serials will be associated with it. gl.
