Default MP code of conduct & tips

I've played TW games since Shogun but have never dived into multiplayer. Now with my Napoleon copy on its way I'm planning to give MP a shot. Is there any MP code of conduct or essential tips a new MP player should know about?

By the way, if anyone in the area of Belgium is looking for someone to play a multiplayer campaign with, let me know!

You're probably used to setting up your troops and then waiting for the AI to run into them blindly to have you mowing them down.
That is called "camping" in MP and a) is not as effective in MP because the attackers tend to be cleverer then the AI and b) results in boring battles that are usually annoying for the attacker (even if the attack is successful).
Get used to moving your army around, everybody will have more fun this way.

Just saw your 2vs2 battle on the Borodino map. Sure looked like a great map. Are all the MP maps so full of features?

There is plenty of variation in maps, from completely flat ground to some very unbalanced like Austerlitz.

Just honor the rules the host have set to the game and you'll do fine .

That battle was actually the perfect counterexample for what I said before:
my opponent, the Prussian, was camping, but the game was very fun. Mostly because he made so many mistakes that he didn't get to be annoying though

And about the maps, what sopulii said.

But isn't it somewhat logical that the defending side is somewhat cautious and tries to set up a good defensive position and awaits the attacker? Or should both sides act as attackers? Don't know who was supposed to be the defender on you Borodino game though.

Camping is kind of a loose term. There are players who will set up and not move an inch the entire game, and there are players who will cry and call you a camper if your army stops moving forward at all. I don't have a problem with camping at all. If someone wants to camp that's fine with me. If the camper has allies that aren't camping he's hanging them out to dry. If all opponents are camping or it's a 1v1 then they are just giving you the advantage of acting first. I see no problem with taking an advantageous position and defending it which some might consider camping. Also if you have artillery and your opponent doesn't, either because you won the artillery duel or he didn't bring any, you have every right to sit and pound him and force him to come to you.

    1. No rules! Camp, spam skirmishers. Abuse every exploit.
    2. When you'll become so famous, that people will kick you on sight - change STEAM name.

Clearly I'm not famous like most the players here, but I have been kicked on ETW many times even when I don't use LiN because of my avatar.

    I'm NOTORIOUS.

With the stars showing up under the name, I'm getting kicked quite a bit lately. It seems that 5 is the maximum or they froze ranking up.

I don't get kicked but I have got 5 stars but I wonder HOW ?????
I am not very good and mostly win my games on drop in battles where I don't have to pick an army

That's probably because you didn't get drop-in battles, but quick battles because no drop-in was available.
Small army size? One of the standard MP maps? Quick battle, ranked.
It's how I got my stars too...
