    Default Naval Warfare in NTW

Well so far, being a heavy criticizer of CA, I just can't find a flaw in the naval sector of NTW so far.
Just blows ETW out of the water.
    1. Sweet new abilities like Repair.
    2. We are able to control # of sails (Very good Chain shot defense).
    3. GRAPESHOT actually WORKS NOW!!
    4. Better graphics and improvements in FPS.
    5. The physics effects are just awesome. Ship tilts when firing/taking fire, wood pieces flying everywhere...etc.

I also like the historical accuracy CA tried to do, like severely increasing production turns on the ships.
I believe its about 10 turns to make a 122- Gun ship.
Have not encountered bugs so far.
How about you guys? Any flaws you see?

Also, just sqeezing this question in, is it entirely and historically accurate that Howitzers have such a short range? If you learn physics, you'll learn that 45 degrees results in the farthest range, and its weird seeing Howitzers have such a shorter range than regular cannons.

I did not know If I would like the repair button, but it really can save your ship for you. Used it tons of times now... Now the repair does not fix cannons or men, you still have to go to port to replace those.

And the New Repair Feature has its own animations. You can actually see the men fixing the ship lol, hammering and stuff. Also when they repair the ship you see boards covering up all the holes. LOL its great. Nice touches CA.

Think the cannons vs Howitzers is a balance issue. the howitzers are ectremly deadly. And with unlimited ammo I welcome any type of limtation like ranges.

They really need to consider adding ammo to the cannons, really messes up Multi player battles.

the range on howitzers are small because of ammunition they fire, the one that explodes... if the used regular propellant charges it would go far greater. but this type, the exploding one, is #1 reason why howitzers were usedin 17/18th century army warfare. it wasnt til later 1850's or so that the howitzer really used exploding shells and the regular canonballs. (the one in 1850s is 12 lb much like the near top end in N:TW and actually named after Napoleon's grandnephew who was emperor of france then.. Nappy the Third?)

field howitzers had much shorter barrels, and used less powder than long guns, which resulted in shorter range. but overally, range of howitzer was about the same as range of normal cannon. for example range of 6pdr long gun was app. 800m, where 24pdr howitzer would fire up to 1000m. Another difference is direct fire gun was able to cause more casualties with solid shot than howitzer.

also howitzer was very effective in firing grape shots at short distance(direct fire) due to large caliber

    Bolded for emphasis.

That's only if you ignore air resistance and other factors! If that were actually true regardless of air resistance then a 9 iron would be the farthest going golf club which is almost as far from the truth that you can get(about 10 degrees is optimum which is what a driver is angled at). Of course, there are other things at play such as the spin of the missile and things like that, but 45 degrees is only optimal on the moon.(no atmosphere!)

Edit: I think I should clarify though, I'm not claiming that 10 degrees is the optimal angle for a cannon, I very much doubt the angle is very far from 45 degrees. But I just wanted to clarify that physics says quite a lot more than "shoot at 45 degrees for maximum range".

yes, 45 degrees is best for maximum range, but you cannot compare different guns with different throw weight, weight of powder used, etc... howitzers fired at longest possible range for a gun with short barrel and size of shell/amount of gunpowder...

cannons used max 10 degrees, but also much lighter shots (4-6-8pdrs were standard, 12pdr aws considered heavy arty... where normal howitzer was about 18-24pdr...) and more powder ratio (to weight of shot)
