Default Who isn't buying NTW and why?

I am one of many people who share the view that Sega/CA let us down with Empire Total War. It is a great game, I love it incredibly but I bought ETW for one reason and one reason only...the ability to play the campaign on multiplayer. The game was released almost a year to the day and still the promise which sold the game to me has not been delivered.

Yes the MP beta is out there - I have tried it and had many hours of fun...But why has it taken a year to deliver on a core promise? Why is a new expansion out before the promise has been fulfilled? No matter how many excuses game developers live you just cannot justify releasing an expansion for a game when you've not even finished the first game.

I usually avoid making posts like this but I am keen to see how many others refuse to buy NTW due to the failed promises made over a year ago. I've loved every TW game I have played and ETW is no different, I just refuse to be made to pay more money when I've not even got what I was promised first time around.

CA/Sega take note - Do yourselves a favor and deliver!

Well given the state that ETW was in I'll wait until I can get it for ~$10 like I did ETW. I just don't see it worth the full price really. They have a really fun game concept with the TW series, just a shame its only after several patches and modders is it really fun. So until that changes I'll just sit back and wait until the patches and mods are already out there before I'll pay.

ETW is still not fixed, so until NTW is very very very cheap i will not buy. except if:

    1. ETW gets patched
    2. NTW get official modding tools (to me it should be the creatiors who gives mod tools)
    3. Some modder makes a "ETW" modd to NTW (becuase i dont like the napoleon crap)

You and me both on #3. It seems like the slim minority feels that way. Everyone else has a big veiny one for Napoleon. Personally if they ever make another one and do a good job without half-assing and building a beta product for their next serious product, like ETW was for NTW, I seriously think it should be within the American Civil War to World War I time era.

NTW = ETW in a new skin, why waste money on it? A new campaign? New uniforms? Not worth it personally. Rather keep a buggy game which is much larger than a less buggy version of it with uglier uniforms.

When the price comes down the tech will already be outdated or close.

    ok,, empire works with mods..
It is an interesting blend of campeign and combat..
To the ? at hand.. NTW looks .. well like vinilla empire BUT with scripted campeigns.. I hate scripted stuff.. so for me Nappy will be not purchased for a long time.. untile folks figure out how to mod it and unlock the features .
It would be nice if Sega and all would actually move forward.. out of kiddy-land into whaere they really could be..

Why pay for the expansion at a full game price. ETW struggled so badly to get to the stage it is now. Once the game actually got close to what the developers envisage SEGA make another money hungry grab and divide the game in two and repackage the next patch as a "game" and sell it at a ridiculous price. I don't have NTW but I heard the version even comes up with 2.0. Any one see a connection ETW 1.5 NTW 2.0.
Very disappointed with SEGA on this, I don't blame the developers at all its obviously a bunch of suits at SEGA trying to see how much they can rip off their customers. This may make the bottomline look good for this year but over time this will bite them in the behind as consumers wise up to their tactics.

I won't be buying it, even in the bargain bin. Bought ETW on release day, had problems installing, solved problems, was impressed by the game at first, then seriously disappointed by bugs and etc. After first batch of "patches", didn't touch it for close to six months and recently decided to see if bugs have been fixed since then. As far as I can tell, that is not the case.

Because I read Darth's review, which confirmed what I suspected.

Until CA don't release a 30€ "7 Years War" add on for Empire (maybe based on NTW) with 90% historical units for England, France, Prussia, Austria, Russia, Spain (the other faction had very similar uniforms with own colors. Example: Hesse with prussian style).

And don't tell me it's not possible. I'm alone and ready with infantry for prussia, austria and russia models and skins and some of cavalry too, as you can see in my sig. I needed 1 month and this always after work and sometimes weekend, if I was at home. so what could create a CA team in this time?

This will never happen, so CA need a wonder to win me again as customer.

P.S. About AI. I gave up the AI. I don't think CA have the right people for that.

i wont be buying ntw because etw was the least moddable game ever released by CA, as a result of the false promise of modding tools and support.
that, and the amount of bugs stemming from etw;especially how a patch would fix a bug but cause three more to pop up in its place, have caused me to realise its not worth fishing out 100 dollars for beta versions of a game. betas were always free in the past, i fail to see how ETW's case is any different, nor how NTW's case will be any different entirely.

i dont. i am not even curious anymore. i read the ntw thread and it seems to be much better then etw. however i am truely not one bit interested or curious anymore.

although i bought empire on steam for 10 bucks. so who knows. one day ntw is on steam at a weekend deal for 6.66 euros i might buy it to play a campaign.

not buying either because steam does not work for me.anyway having read darths review which confirmed what i suspected, coupled with the ahistorical rubbish included to appease the console children (ironclad ships anyone?),and topped off with the refusal of ca\sega to give the modders the tools they need to turn nta into a truly exellent game i think my moneys better off in my pocket than in theirs.if they wont listen to us,i for one aint paying them anymore.

I've listed my reasons.. They ain't getting my money. I am gonna pick up the free copy after its patched a few times and try it out myself.

Also for anyone who cares about the historical aspect. Among generals they could have for expansions of ANY of their games.. Napoleon Bonaparte may be one of the most egomaniacal generals of all time.. and thats really saying something.. Besides the fact that more than GOOD he was lucky on the battlefield waterloo proved he was an arrogant idiot who had no grasp on tactics.

A list of generals they COULD have had for expansions.

    Alexander (rome)
    Pericles (rome)
    Julius Caesar (rome)

    Minamoto no Yoritomo (shogun)
    Tokagawa leyasu (shogun)

There are so many for the medieval period I wont even list them suffice to say there are at least 50 generals (princes, kings, knights etc) that would wipe the floor with napoleon

The game overall is an insult to me and everyone else that bought ETW... at the VERY least it should have been an expansion pack and not a stand alone.

    Not buying because:

    1. ETW still isn't fixed
    2. NTW requires Steam
    3. I read Darth Vaders Review.

Might buy it when it goes on sale, I always loved the TW series.

Purchased Nap ETW and enjoying it now but i will admit it has taken the best part of a week to enjoy it. Feels too enclosed compared to ETW, playing as the UK was too difficult for me, eventually playing as Russia and its much easier. In comparison to ETW is more or a challenge allright ! Still a bit disappointed by the cut down nature of the game however, i want a whole world ETW map CA !!!! not just Europe. The bigger the better, bigger map, more factions, more units during battles. IMO that will make any ETW derivative better.
