Why do you think CA wont release modding tools?
i think they wont do it because they know it can be modded into colonization TW which they are gonna use for this engine

Well they are afraid their competitors will get their hands on it, its just a poor ass excuse for saying hey FUUUU modders we're going to release DLC and make money off of it, because we can't make money off of your mods
its because the ETW code with mod tools is more flexible than the old code for previous games.
no faction, unit, or region limits? no map limits? we could make anything we want that way, and CA would rather milk us for money off of new games we could make from mod ideas with the tools.

My god the possibilities are endless. Oh all except a ship that caning rammmmmm!!
I actually prefer rum ice cream at BR or Rainbow Sherbert. The chocolate is nice as well. Sometimes tea in ice cream just ruins it imo. Its like drinking tea and eating ice cream at the same time. Have Americans become that lazy...
i dont like the idea of a DLC i mean why should i pay for something i already payed for its like buying a jacket and then after you bought it you have to buy the zipper or buying shoes then having to pay for shoe laces after that
Anyway the competitors counldn't go far with it i mean im sure CA could sue since its the same engine

Hi all,
The Fact is this: Sega/CA will NEVER again allow code to leak out again as in the case of RTW & BI, granted it happened under Activision's production.
Sega's MTW2 allowed some original mods and ETW & NTW have effective stopped original modding.
A past post in the RTW forum, I believe, stated that code was leaked which caused UMPTEEN different mods to come out of RTW, some examples: Europa Barbarorum, Rise of Persia, Rome Total Realism, Invasio Barbarorum, etc.
FACE IT FOLKS: Sega will never again allow ANY of its' code to be leaked out again and to me this means:
Slight modification of present & future TW games with NO original, from scratch, mods being done again.
This is the unspoken norm, via DLC and other media, to ensure that TRUE modding is dead.
Of course, I can't blame Sega/CA for not wanting code to leak out. It costs them $$ and communities like this one use the HELL out of code to create worlds of their own.
Welcome to the New World Order in the TW series,

I think this post explains the OP's question quite right on, btw.
CA has never given us mod tools
Well if modding has been killed by SEGA and CA, this forum is deceased,..murdered.

Obviously theres someone who hasnt seen the epic Israel vs palestine debates in the mudpit.
Anyway they never released mod tools, as someone above just said, its all just leaked code and hacks, along with some relatively light notepad editing. Now that its on steam you can still change some things, but theyre basic.
But people have tried and are going to "hack" the code anyway , and eventually you will get some mods. Not as big as RTW mods maybe, but new units and models and a new map most likely eventually yes.
Even if mod tools are released, they will probably not do as much as people want. they will probably be just to change the map around and some parameters and units. thats it.

I've seen them and I've been in them, but I would hardly call them epic. Long and largely based on ignorance? Yes. Epic? No. However, the sorry excuse for debate that happens in the mudpit is not what this site is based on and it will begin to decay as the modding community does the same.
You're right, they never released mod tools. Most of the tools were created by the community. However, CA promised that Empire would be the most mod-friendly game in the TW series. I think this is where people draw their gripe from.Anyway they never released mod tools, as someone above just said, its all just leaked code and hacks, along with some relatively light notepad editing. They released *a few* tools in the past, if I recall correctly. The unpacker, .cas exporter and the docudemon files for M2TW spring to mind. Although I'm not too up-to-date on ETW news, I think the reason why they haven't released modding tools for ETW is because they designed its engine using 3rd party programs which they don't have permission to release, I think, but please correct me if I'm wrong though.

I'm not sure if you guys have seen these yet, but thought I would post a couple of links that you might find interesting:
- This is a petition by a top TWC modder for the release of some modding tools.
- Here's a very good article, which gives a very good account of the relationship between CA and the modding community at present.

All TW engines are in house, they have been created by the CA coders.

I want CA to know that I didn't buy MTW II until after KK released the Stainless Steel Mod, and I bought the expansion because of the mod as well. My wife got ETW for me as a gift, and I had confidence that there would be a mod available to make it a good game. For me, the mods have driven my purchase decision, not what CA/Sega releases.
This.
No mods and TW games are pretty lame. I like tutti frutti and bubblegum, not vanilla.
Now that CA are going down the path of making their games less moddable for whatever reason ($$$$$) I'm just not interested anymore. Plenty of interesting tutti fruity mods in Rome and Med2 TW to explore.
Even with mods ETW is like vanilla with a couple chocolate chips in it.
I want green tea ice cream, pistachio ice cream, strawberry swirls, neopolitan. A whole Ben and Jerry's meets Baskin and Robbins.

Ca/SEGA does not realize that a big part of the TW impact is due the mods, and that ultimately they will be the big losers.
