    Default When Worlds Collide (A mod Suggestion)

    When Worlds Collide

    It would be cool if someone made a mod, that put the factions of antiquity at war with the factions of the middle ages (of course neither side would be unified, that would be just wrong). Historically, the timeline could be correct up untill a givin date, when (insert any plot idea here) hoards of people from b.c. times come pouring through. They could come from the seas (terra incognita at that time) or just appear in their native lands through unknown circumstances. Its not important how this massive transportation of people through time happens, whats important is that Midevil total war + Rome total war = Epic total war.

    But here's why it would work! Let me present one possible sequence of events.

    In some areas Antiquity would be set to prevale.
    Assume hoards of Romans, for example, appear in italy and take back their City. The situation is not unlike how they origionally came to dominate their heartland. The Roman faction could play the penninsula against itself and take atvantage of its lack of unity. Through betrayal, infighting, and alliances, the Italian cities of Venice, Milan, Genoa, and Florence would fall like Veii, Cumae, Tarquinii, and Alba Longa before them. A republic in a time of kings, pegan at a time of religious conflict, yet feared and reveared by everyone. Perhaps, it would be enough to set the stage for an even more epic conflict; the Roman republic and Holy Roman empires to war...

    Factions which could historically show this kind of Trend:
    Rome conquers italy (but seriously, isnt that enough!?)

    In other reigons, kingdoms would wipe the floor with their ancient counterparts...
    Like in france. Gallic warbands would innitally roam the countryside, looting and pillaging the unprepared pilgrims. Enter the professional french army. Their hevy calvary would literally run over the naked zealous Gauls. Their bravery, which made them feared in a time before the knight, would just be suicidal in the middle ages. They would have their chance, but they could never win. From a game standpoint, RTW gallic units could never stand against France. The kingdom of France would most certainly survive.

    Factions which would historically show this kind of Trend
    France defends against gaul
    Fatmid Caliphate wins against Ptolemic Egypt
    Holy Roman Empire would eliminate any old germans which ventured in its lands (couldnt get them all)
    Hungary would win against Illyria

    Another, very interesting, possibility could be explored. The uniting of classical and midevil factions to form something new.
    Among others, Greece and the Byzantinum could be explored in this sense.
    As we all know, the Byzantines hold on the old ways to the point of stagnancy. They have abondoned the old gods in favor of one; they retain their old lands but dont have the numbers to keep them. They are a shadow of the old world, its institutions surviving but at it's core, decaying. But strange news would reach the bizantines. The papracy is gone, a people resembling pre-ceasarian Rome are conquering Italy. The children of christ are loosing. What's more? Thousands of hoplites are appearing in the Greek countryside. The greeks and the byzantines are kin, and both very reasonable. Hoplites are out of date, but they are brave, selfless soldiers which can be taught to fought in modern ways. Religion will be more difficult, but not impossable. There is common ground, what could they become?

    Factions which would historically show this kind of Trend
    Greece and Byzantium
    Steppe Barbarians and Mongols?
    Lithuanians and Old Germans
    Norsemen?

    But in many areas, there is no way to predict who would come out on top.

    If Iberian celts are thrown into the middle of the reconquista, they would at least shake things up a little. They are after all, not as outgunned as their french brethern.
    Carthage would strike at the moor's most economically essential areas, choking their economy. But unlike Numedia, the Moor's have hevy troops which can fight back... though they wolnt be prepared for elephants.
    The Selucid empire could aquire a homeland but they are not good enough to challange the muslums which now rule the coast. If they are to survive, they must not seek war but isolated in the deserts, they would be bound to change...
    Thrace is not a conventional faction. They have no urge to take back byzantuim, its massive, disgusting. Accustomed to gurilla warfare and hating big cities, they could slip into the thicket immediatly after appearing in the futute. Even if hungary attacks their villages, they arnt a concentrated enough people to destroy. The men of thrace could come to be seen as beasts, their lands owned by others... others who are still unwilling to travel into the forest without an army to guard them... (rebel armies pop up all the time, assassinations against careless nobles, loads of thracian mercs in the reigon. Total war's first disembodied faction)
    The brittish isles would be an area of chaos. Scotts, Anglo saxton tribes, and Normans already fight over these lands. But would the appearence of hundreds of thousands of hostile pegans change things? Would it end them, would it unite them, or would the "Archcelts" become just another faction? One thing is for sure, their brothers in ireland, though kin, are too catholic to put up with them. There will be blood...

    This is just a taste of what could have been possible. The right modding team could incorporate RTW/ Rome total Realism Skins into MTW. This could be a chance to write a fictional history. Classical factions, Midevil Factions, and mixed factions of historically/fictional origin in one map. History actually blends well enough to give a perfect mix of chaos, stability, and natural selection which could make this a great situation. Rome would come out on top on italy every time, and more factions are so miss-matched that the outcome is inevitable, but the shear volitility of a map with so many factions means that in the more evenly matched reigions, different factions would come out on top each playthrough.
