    Default 8800/9800 GT Performance

Hey everybody at TW center. I just got Empire ( i'm a huge fan of the series, although i was cheap and payed only $15 for it at the steam sales )
    I have a 3ghz core 2 duo, 2 gb ram and a 8600 gt.
I am wondering what sort of performance the people who run either 8800s or 9800s get, since i'm thinking of getting one of those cards..

    Cheers!!

dont waste your time with the 8800

the 9800GTX should run the game fine but if you are looking for a graphics card that wont give you problem go with an ATI

unless of course its an AGP slot then the 8800 is the best card you can put in there... nvidia drivers are giving this game fits for some reason.

despite what the naysayers say my 9500GT runs the game fine on high settings..

I have a similar CPU to you, and I have been running an 8800GTX for almost 2 years now. Runs Empire quite well on high settings, but for the best framerates you may need to sacrifice a few things like light bloom, for instance. My game still looks pretty enough, but you may want to spend the little extra for the 9800.

game runs fine on my 8800GT with X3 720 and 2gb of ram... i can hit 15 or so FPS in battles though (on High settings, no AA), and i am at 1280x1024. i'd suggest a 4850 or 4870, or better

My 8800Gt runs fine at 1920x1080 on high settings. It depends how much you're willing to spend and what you need. If you find an 8800gt cheap then you won't go wrong. Can't go wrong with anything else that has been suggested either. Any of these will run it very well. Don't worry about it too much and just get what you can best get for the price.

the game should run fine in normal settings.

the real praise here is that you bought the game for 15 bucks

If you've got an 8600 you certainly shouldn't get an 8800. Aside from being notoriously bad with drivers, it's not worth it. Even the 9800 is a bit *meh* these days, but if you can get one really cheap you might as well go for it. It should suffice for all but full stacks blazing away at each other with a smoke mod installed.

Cheers guys, thanks for the replies.
I only mentioned the 8800 because it's similar to the card i was actually going to get; the 9800 GT 1GB. You're right, i should probably be going higher than the 9800, however, it's $100 AUD ( In my country, Australia, inflation on games and computer components is insanity- usually, the 9800 would still be $200 AUD). This is why i have decided to jump on it.

I've ran the game with my "MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC Geforce 8800GT" ( " The MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is pre-overclocked to 660MHz core and 1920MHz memory. The standard is 600/1800MHz core/memory. This lean single slot PCI Express x16 videocard is backed by 512MB of GDDR3 memory." )which came in 2007. Works OK (running pretty medium settings on 1440x900 resolution), but things can always get better

YES, the 8800 GT and newer ever so slightly better 9800 GT are great graphics cards for their now much cheaper price, they run all modern games well and and combined with your good intel dual core you should be able to run ETW at max in some areas such as detail

    Hi there.
I do not see any problems using a 9800gtx. I my self uses a 1Gb 9600GT, and it plays the game smooth on all-high specs. So, I say go for it, as a 9800gtx is just a slightly faster 9600gt.
    Good luck.
