Can the AI retreat yet?

Thread: Can the AI retreat yet?

So I heard Napoleon came out. The thing that pissed me off the most with Empire was that the AI couldn't retreat. I mean have armies ever just stood there and battled to the death? Theres no challenge if you can just pick off armies one by one.

So is the AI still Honor bound to not retreat?

They retreat as needed now both on the campaign and battle map.the AI finally knows an unwinnable fight when it sees one

Nearly every fight I've fought on VH/VH has ended in a slaughter- even when there's no possible way for the AI to win.

    So no, it can't.

Ideally I should only be able to take 30% of their army down to trigger a retreat- instead it takes at least 90% before anything happens, and even then they keep coming back.

I'd also like for them to remove the "retreat" restrictions from Settlements, if anything they should replace it with "Surrender" this way you can raise the white flag after a good days fighting. This is what the AI should be doing- all your army evacs and moves to the nearest command city.

I've had a few retreats that have been rather early. None right at the start of the battle, but on occasion you'll kill 30%-40% of their forces and the AI will retreat.

Yeah, I've seen them do it on the campaign map quite often, and on the battle map a couple of times

Only seems to retreat when it's got a smart enough general in charge of the army. I've had several armies of just 3 units with no general try to make a stand against my full stack

If you guys are being serious then it sounds like CA made an actual strategy game for once

I can confirm the ai retreats on the Map and in battles. Most of the time though on the actual camp map the AI retreats but you can still catch him most of the time.

On the battle maps I have watched the AI just withdraw after taking a bunch of beatings to my line inf. I have also seen it when I thought I would lose a battle... And after the AI took to many loses just retreated.

They only retreat once their canons are gone, or when they only have canons left (at least in my experience)
Also, the general retreats when he is left alone.

I can confirm as well that it retreats from both campaign and battle.

This still needs to be tweaked, especially the battles. The AI is still fighting longer then it needs to in a loosing battle. Especially after you cause a massive route and those units re-rally and advance on the line again. At this point the AI should leave the field if it can.

Not in my experience. The general alone, yes, but that makes perfect sense! The AI retreats quite often, and when it does, I can't disagree. Good job there CA.

I've noticed that they tend to withdraw if their general flees. If he's caught by a roundshot however, they tend to have a go at you then rout.

Yes they do! I had an excellent battle where the enemy line advanced toward my line and was beaten back, only for them to re-form their line back where they started and wait for me to attack them! I managed to beat them but only just!
