This is a topic about whether you think that the AI's use of fire and advance is detrimental to its success on the battlefield.
I think it causes situations where the AI closes to attack in melee when it would not normally do so.

"...I'll look for something else. We're surrounded by water. Why are we eating knob?"
where is the poll?
No poll...but OK...yes, it should be.

Haha give it a second.

Lol voted!
at first sight, Fire & Advance looks extremely juicy because one gets tired of everyone but the first rank idling around and Fire & Advance provides the solution. then you start to use it, and you realize how cumbersome it is.
line infantry & elite units being out-ranged by armed citizenry is a joke. they just stand there while they pick you off; you have to micromanage each unit and tell them to step forward a couple of meters so they can make up the lost range from being in Fire & Advance mode. is the lesser range an intentional change for balance reasons?
after the first 3 ranks fire, the unit reforms back into the original spot. that sounds O.K on paper, but when you look at it happening in a battle, you can't help but to be stupefied by the oddity. why can't the first rank (which started reloading after their volley) now move up in front of the third rank to renew the cycle? the clunky animations and weird pauses of the soldiers reforming back into the original spot JUST to begin reloading again while they're being pelted easily persuades me to keep the mode off.
in conclusion, it's not so much as remove Fire & Advance but edit it so it's actually worth researching & then move it up the military tree if you have to, i don't know.

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.
Yeah I agree with that. As much as elite units beat armed citizenry in ranged combat, it's an even worse beatdown in melee.
Fire and Advance is a perfect lead in to a charge. If only they could get it to initialize faster, the time it takes to spread out and re-form can be a killer if you're already pretty close.

Yup. That's why I never activate it if they've already closed. Fire and Advance is definitely a pre-planned tactic. Your people set up as they're moving forward(or the enemy is approaching, either one). It's never been that the drill is broken, it's just been that, for its advantages, it has certain weaknesses you have to pay attention to if you're going to make good use of it.

The worst thing about FAA is when you have formations deeper than three ranks.
With each rank running forward, the gap it creates grows larger and the following ranks take longer to run to the front.
The back ranks (i.e., the ones behind the last one advancing) should also move up to close that gap.

Respecto Patronum
I honestly don't know about how the AI uses it.
When I use it, on the other hand, I get my ass handed to me on a silver platter.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to live.
CA will improve the fire and advance.
Darth Vader will improve the fire and advance end thread.
It can be worked on no need to pull it out ffs i like it.
Is it possible for you to make a post that isn't obnoxious?
I don't have faith in CA as far as competent fixes.
I don't wanna wait till Darth or other mods can fix it or remove it because it can't be fixed, nor do I like relying on a single person to fix problems. Last I checked he had removed it from his mod.
Snuggans posted why it doesn't work.

"...I'll look for something else. We're surrounded by water. Why are we eating knob?"
I like it. And snuggans explains why![]()
Lmfao calm down babe
If its taken out by CA im putting it right back in simples.
Darth will find a way for it to work im sure.
If not i lost all hope >_<.
As mentioned above the way Darth and other modders fix fire and advance is by removing it...
The fact that Fire and Advance causes Units to double there spacing is the problem, a problem that will be even more significant after pple start using closer formations. This will make fire and advance units almost triple there units frontage before they shoot and from ETW fire drill spacing seems un-modifiable.
Remove Fire by rank and instead include the most unpopular bug ridden firedrill from ETW way to go CA.Glad too see there approach to quality testing hasn't changes in my absence.
DLC fire by Ranks coming soon maybe![]()

I'm not biting anymore.
"...I'll look for something else. We're surrounded by water. Why are we eating knob?"
Agreed dogs if it worked
Having different firedrills/training is a good thing but not if they stuff up (even more) the BAI.
But removing it thru modding is how it will occur, - You dont think CA actually pay any attention to these polls hehe.
As said DArth was one of the first to axe it and it was a wise move.
