Does anyone else extensively name their units? Meaning, currently in my Prussian campaign, I name my regiments according to their number, so my Musketeers are all named like 25.Infanterie Regiment and once they gain 4 gold chevrons, they are given a name such as "Köings Own" or a latin/german name.

Anyone else do this? and if so, what do you use?

I would say its one the best features in the game

and if one of my units gets a star chevron I usualy name it after the battle or other location nearby
but I really dont bother too name all my units, the reason is that they have too earn it by bloody sacrifice
    to the god of war

when a unit is very experienced (and goes packed up in aunbeatable army) i usually name them with special historical names, ex:

spain: i name them Tercios(tercio. (tercio de flandes, de sevilla, de cordoba. "de" means "from")
england: commander names. (Aburey regiment, Nelson regiment, Wellington regiment, McDonald squadron)
france: strange names, acrroding to french culture. (the hawks, minnie the moocher, bastille in love...)

and the ships, i usually name them following movies, such as HMS hooligan, IFS (imperial french ship) Jackass... etc...

In my first ETW and NTW cmapaign I named all my units by the location I recruited them from. Really fun because you care more about your regiments.

    Good to hear

LiN: I'd love that to. Having like the "European Grand Army" or "The Italian Army" and such.

I'm playing H/H on a Prussian campaign and in my down time, that's what I do. It adds an attachment to your Regiments.

I do it because I have much down time running my Generals around because France has yet to attack and the Ottoman threat has been neutralized by Russia and Austria.

I rename them, yes. Especially ships. As the brits I always add "HMS" before their titles and add better names like "Indefatigable", "Intervention", "Dauntless","Invincible","George" etc etc.

As for land units I don't name them as much. Sometimes I rename the odd infantry unit such as Foot Regiments in Gibraltar as "1st Regiment of Royal Marines" etc.

I don't do it with other factions cause I'm not native to them so I dunno many names.

In ETW I named all my units. In my British Campaign, it would be like '4th Regiment of Foot (Northumberland). And only troops from England could be named that, units recruited in any other province were named (for example) '1st Foreign Regiment of Foot (Lisbon). Then if any unit distinguished themselves, they would be named something like 'So and so's finest'. I would sometimes take it to an extreme and have Regiments 'go on tour' where after ten years of service, they would ship back to England and then a new Regiment would ship out. These kind of features help you attach to your units, so if one gets destroyed, you want revenge. I love this feature.

I tend to name a unit if I feel I've wronged them in some way. For example I had the 'Unlucky' 13th Foot who I once left unattended during a battle and who held out under heavy attack and suffered 50% casualties, and I had 'The Old Expendables' who were my first choice Forlorn Hope regiment in sieges.
