Once Britain gets taken out on Nicosia and you get access to good French troops, it all becoms too easy. The enemy Ottoman and Mamalukes just uses peasant levvies, even Damascus was so easy I just autoresolved. The only remotely hard fight was taking back Acre. Anyone else think the Egyptian campaign's kind of a joke?

I love how people complain about how easy a campaign is when they're playing it on an easy level. Try it on VH/VH and then come complaining on how easy it is

And good luck taking the British and their 3 and a half stacks out on Cyprus, much less actually getting there (without getting raped by their navy)

Never judge anything based on N/N. Of course it's a joke, Normal is easy. Easy is toddler difficulty (literally impossible to lose).

I really enjoyed the Egypt campaign as well as the Italian campaign. I did play it on N/N though which made it way too easy. It definitely needs to be played on hard or higher. I ended up winning a year ahead of time.

My favorite part was sending a sloop up to Cyprus with a half stack army on it. I was biting my nails for two turns hoping it would evade Nelson's fleet. It did, and I had to fight a full stack of brits on Cyprus using inferior line infantry but luckily I had more artillery and won with few losses.

I just stopped playing it, I thought it was to boring, I could just auto-resolve every battle....

I didn't even bother taking Nicosia. Autoresolved ftw.

I had the same feeling about Egypt and I even did not try to take out the Brits. I played on H and with a dro-in partner for even battles. I hear, on VH it's better...

on VH/VH it was a real war. The first thing I did was taking cyprus and after that it became an endless war against the mamalukes, bedouins and ottomans. I took damascus barely in time. I had to loot a lot of city's for money.

On hard and, although easy, the raiding Bedouins are a pain in the arse.

On H/H I was getting slapped in many battles. For some reason, the Turks kept building armies with 4+ artillery units [damned 18 pounders!] and with laser guided accuracy decimated my troops.

Far tougher for me than Italian game, but not as fun.

Nothing like a full stack of camel raiders to brighten your day. They were the biggest pain because militia guarding your cities can't really deal with them too well so it's a good idea to leave some line infantry with them to form some squares. Honestly even without the good French troops it's somewhat easy. All they really throw at your are peasant armies and militia. Haven't gotten to the Ottomans yet because I find that Campaign boring due to the lack of diplomacy. Having a lot more fun with the European Campaign and Campaign of the Coalitions.

I found their full stacks of camel riders to be the easiest to defend against, even with militia. I just put my militia in the houses and the camel riders couldnt attack, they just wandered around between the houses and were picked one by one. After my militia ran out of ammo, I just let them out of the houses to melee. I successfully defended all my cities that way with just militia.

Playing on H/H and It's not that easy. OK, the Mamluks gets whooped easily, but:
1 - Those Bedouins make raids so I have to protect my resources w/ some cavalry, not just local militia.
2 - It seems that the Ottomans are also sending Nizam troops, not just armed peasants
3 - More important & difficult, Cyprus is really not that easy to reach, because Nelson is hunting down any french vessel you can send and It's a heartbreak to see your entire army sunk with it Playing hide & seek with Nelson is risky. Any tips BTW?

So, It's not that easy (well, some parts are, like seizing Cairo & the Nile Delta) and I guess that the OP's remark is due to a lower difficulty level. Maybe on E and M the Turks are dumb enough to send only militia, and maybe Nelson gets sloppy then. Try H or VH.

EDIT: personally I like that campaign for the oriental feeling, It's pretty cool. OK It's not the big campaign but It's more original than the Italian campaign where you just go forward & mop down any Italian or Austrian "obstacle". The Italian battles are more challenging.

I too would like to know how you evade that ridiculous British fleet. Is it just luck of the draw? Egyptian campaign would be a lot easier for me if I had access to more elite troops--it's been a really slow slog so far.
Let me persuade you with my powerful logic skills.

In light of the Total War series, a quote from the theologian whom I respect the most:

The Heavenly City outshines Rome, beyond comparison. There, instead of victory, is truth; instead of high rank, holiness.

I just gave up on cyprus and slugged it out with what i had. Will try something else next i play it.

I play on H/H and the Eygpt campaign was challenging for me, seems the same for most others.

@ OP, you stated you were playing N/N, i would suggest that you might try going up a notch.
