Default Help Sought - Graphics Card Issue

    Hey those-who-know-their-tech,

I've just rebuilt my machine following a virus infection, by reinstalling Windows XP. All seems to be fine except I'm having graphics card issues.

I've a Sapphire ATI HD4670, but the machine doesn't recognise it. Device manager simply says I have an a VGA compatible driver. When I let it do an auto-detect and install, it ends up installing the drivers for a GeForce 7050PV/nForce630a.

Any ideas how I can make it recognise the card for what it really is, so that I can install the right drivers?

    Cheers.

It's probably trying to install the onboard chipset graphics as the default, you have to go to the ATI website and download the drivers from there, then you can install it manually. (Though, if you bought your video card brand new, you should be getting an installation CD with the drivers already on them.)

Got the drivers mate and have downloaded the new ones too. But for some reason, even after installing them, it doesn't recognise the card. Still says its a VGA capable graphics card. The only way to recognise it as anything so far is it let it automatically recognise and install... which results in the NVidia result.

@Spiff: All good in that regard.

Managed to fix the problem. Simply took the card out, put it back in, and when I turned the machine back on, it recognised it for what it was... go figure.

MTW2 (and maybe some ETW) here I come.

    Mods, please close this thread.

    Cheers.

I had that problem once and it was because the cards contact pins were properly inserted into the slot.
