Icon6 garrison scripted cities dont sally out

Somehow in my game the AI never sallies out when I attack important (and garrisonscript-protected) cities.

The garrison script boosts their numbers so they can easily handle me, but they still wait inside to die. Even till the last turn! They give up and I can walk in.

I even killed the balrog because they had no food left lol

Am I the only one here so lucky?

well now that you talk about it I did the same thing with the Black Gate. But I had a full stack and another 1/2 stack in reserve so I though that scared them off
Yea I know the name is terrible, but it's not really finished.

    I was really like:

"yes! Im winning! I own this game! yeah, lets attack. this gonna be easy"

    [attacks the fortress]

"wow!! forgot about the garrison script! now theyre twice as strong! ok, lets check the units! arr, they have a balrog, wargs, trolls! Im done for! Ok, here goes nothing "

    [clicks the end turn button]

    "err? they do nothing? whaaat??"

Welcome to the miracle of CA coding, where fixing one thing inevitably breaks something else, or 2.

So far they've always sallied out in my campaigns.

yeah mine too, just yesterday Elrond sallyed out of rivendal when he ran out of food, his 800 elves didnt stand much of a chance against my 4000+ goblins, he put up a damn good fight though

I remember a few cases, where the ai never sallied, and I got the settlement without a fight!!!
And I wondered why they didn't even sally on the last turn. I always assumed, that it was because they were hopelessly ountnumbered.
It might be, that this was the case you described, Mile83.
But I can't be sure, because I usually attack pretty early after laying siege (time is money- so no time to hang around uselessly for my armies), and sometimes other enemy armies attack trying to lift the siege...

If this is like you describe, then the garrison script is after all pretty useless, and you can just sit and wait, while the enemy hands over his cities...

But if everyone else is experiencing sallys...

If your army is strong enough to match them, the won't sally out. If your army is smaller than theirs, sallying out is the first thing they do!
    Commander, the time has come.

    Execute Order 66.

The funniest thing concerning sieges for me (it relates to the balrogs dieing from lack of food) - I was going to take Moria but they sallied out WITH their balrogs and garrison script - with my elite elven army I did manage to take down most of his army apart from his balrogs who were fighting with some militia protecting my general. I hadn't taken down a single balrog but managed to get inside and take control of the city.... so what do I do - send all but 1 of my units to attack the balrogs (to no effect) while the 1 units counts down the timer and I win
