I know the series premiered a while ago, but I just recently started watching. Now obviously I am quite ignorant on Roman history, so I am just wondering just how accurate this series is?

A lot of the actual history is wrong. One of the most grating examples (to me, at least) is that Cato is an old man in the series. In reality Cato was five years younger than Caesar, eleven years younger than Pompey.
That being said, I believe that the series' depiction of Roman life is fairly accurate, though I'd like to hear other people's reactions to that.

I have clue if it was
I just do not understand how a show that great could have ended
.
hahaha yeah the sex ifigured to be a but overdone
That was an awesome showFunny as hell with all the swearing.
haha yeah this show is great, but it made me wonder how accurate it is haha
I'm watching the series again for the third time. I have it on Blu-ray and it's quality is outstanding on the 73" screen. In the making of it they tried to make everything as realistic as possible. This history is mostly correct. They filmed the entire two seasons in Rome and the surrounding countryside. It's was incredibly expensive to produce. I read the the enormous cost of the show and a large fire on the set pretty much nixed a third season. The Blu-ray version has a great "Making Of Rome" on the last disc.
I remember I rented HBO rome just to watch a nice roman series. But when I saw the first sex scene about 1 minute into the movie, my p**** got erect like a. I was 13 and my mom saw and said wtf are you doing. Not mad but like wtf. I said ughh this was suppose to be about Julius Ceaser!
His highness, þeþurn I, Keng of Savomyr!
My parents watched the second episode (the surgery episode) and refused to let me watch it ever since. I eventually got my hands on the seasons, and yeah that episode is gross but Pullo's expression is priceless lol.
I always thought it was available on Hulu. Anyway, it's streamable on Netflix (US). Not bad for $9/mo.
i tried hulu but its not on there and im not gonna pay for something i can easily get for free haha
Accurate enough, but not 100% accurate, then again you can never make a 100% accurate movie let alone series
The only glaring thing that i remembered being unhistorical was the battle of Philipii (sp?) wasn't it supposed to last 2 days, and Brutus and Cassius never died as shown on Rome, i thought they died another way?
A nice touch would've been Antony going over to find Brutus and cover his face with a purple cloak or some such, even if it is a small tale, it would've made it that much more awesome.
But yes, SEX SCENESSSSSSSSSSSSSS were definitely the most unhistorical part of HBO, that is just not how they had sex back then.

Not to turn OT but stuff isn't "free" on Hulu - you're funding the providers through advertisement. A portion of Netflix's fee would fund HBO, not to mention it's a virtual movie database for crying out loud. I just entered 'Rome' in their search engine and got over 150 results, Lol.
its actually 107 results, but have you ever heard of the show jim ROME is burning? or ROMEo and Juliet? hahah rome the hbo series is not on there and hulu is free because i dont pay any money, thats considered free to me despite the advertisement.
@space wolves, hahah yeah the sex scenes are a little bit ridiculous and there is one almost every episodes, some have several sex scenes hahah
