RTW and Cossacks - help please

I'm new here.

Many years ago I bought my first ever RTS game - Cossacks - which I enjoyed playing, but then I gave it up for Age Of Empires. I then went through two more RTS games before eventually buying Rome Total War a few months after it came out.

I was hooked. It was my game of choice thereafter, and not even Med2TW could tempt me.

I recently got a new computer, and went online with it for the first time today. A couple of days ago I bought a brand new sealed Cossacks on eBay. I had fond memories of it, and felt that I had not played it anything like enough before I moved on to other games.

The trouble is ... I can't get either game to play. I have installed RTW at least twice, using the same disc set I used with my previous computer, but it doesn't let me play it. As for Cossacks, I have installed that, but I can't find the website for registering it. I get an error code, and the Cossacks website appears not to exist any more. I have messaged the eBay vendor to see if he can help.

Can anyone give me any helpful suggestions?

Frankly I am unwilling to buy any more games until this matter has been sorted out.

what do you mean wont let you play RTW? does it not launch?

Correct. I just tried it, and all it did was bring up the Gamespy website, which is of no use to me as I do not play online games.

then your not launching the game lol

Neither Cossacks or RTW require an internet connection to launch. Also, neither game requires an internet registration to work. It looks like you're not launching the game properly.

When I first installed both of these games onto my new computer I did not yet have a dongle, and therefore no internet connection.

I'm really not sure what is wrong with either one. I am using the same RTW disc set as on my old computer, and I used to plays Cossacks on my old computer, although with a different disc.

When I try to play RTW the only option it gives me for game play is to play with Gamespy Arcade, and then it won't let me do that. That's puzzling. Also when I try to play Cossacks I just get an error message. All I know is that I cannot register the game online, but I agree that I ought to be able to play it anyway.

It is easy to say that I am not launching the games properly, but I am at a loss to work out what if anything I am actually doing wrong.

Try right clicking on the desktop icon, then go to properties, click on the compatibility tab, then change the compatibility to something else and try it.

I have tried changing that, but no luck.

I have tried Cossacks on another older computer, and it works fine.

I suppose I should give up trying to play old games on a new computer.
