Prof isn't on line anymore. (not even as part of the forth age), it would be impossible to have them as a single download, as the files are to big,

As for the forth part, well it's become a bit of a holy grail, some say it existed, others say it was just a dream, and yet dreams can be found in the hearts of men, or as we call it the mod workshop

Ok i'm at work now so i can get to into this strait away, so until later look though these, if you havn't already, and when you get stuck just come back and ask, it's easier if you have a specific question. and most of all don't give up.

Ok i've got a few minuets so, you've added the uv modifier and selected the figure and edit. a window has come up ,at the left of the window is a drop down menu. select the path of the texture and it will appear in the window.

Then you need to work out which is the default texture for the unit, as some have three tga's so have photoshop open at the same time.

make a slight alteration to a texture save it, go back to max (in the uv window) click the texture back to chequred pattern and then back to the texture path, if you can see the change you made that's the default.

now the default isn't always the one the game uses, but we'll get back to that when we need to.

Ok you checking out my mod so i'll carry on for a while, when you know which one is the default you can edit it in photoshop, i'm assuming you know about skinning, anything you change you can save and view in max strait away.

If you wish to move sections of the texture around, common for weapons and shields, the best way to do this is to edit it in ps first, say if you want to have a non symetrical shield, when you have your new shield in your texture and youve saved it, go back to max and select the shield, go to the uv widow, along the bottom panal you can see three small grids, click on the one furthest right, now at the top of the window select mapping, normal mapping, and in the pop up window select top/bottom, in the uv window you should now have two grids, one is the top of the shield, and the other the bottom, now just position them, you'll have to work out the tools for doing this but its pretty simple,

I'll put up a couple of screen shot's when i get home, hopefully others will do the same inlcuding you, to share the knowagle of the great mystery's of 3D Max

i hope this is clear enough, it should get you started at least.

Oh and this will seem hopeless many times before your happy with it
what did you think of my mod by the way

Thought I'd drop in to give you Prof's fourth tutorial. I had it on my computer, so I uploaded it to MegaUpload. Be warned however that it's still not perfect, as the screen will freeze at 19 min or so. It'll be a great help however, especially for beginners. And if this isn't clear enough, you can always ask here, and HS will without a doubt answer.

It's the same as for the shield, you select the figure( right click and select top level, click on figure) now things get a bit complicated, in the modifier stack skin is at the top, now i'm going off the top of my head here, you have to add a uv to the stack, when you've done this click on every part of the helmet on the model, it should all show as red, now in the uv window the areas you've selected should be red as well, right click and select break, this will detach the uv map parts of the helmet from the rest of the head. then as with the shield
select normal mapping but now you want left and right, this should give you the two halves of the helmet, now it gets fiddly but you just need to fit them to your texture, I've never really had to do this so maybe there's an easier way. it might be better if you put up a screen shot of your model and the texture so we can see what your trying to do. there's to much to learn without being specific

When you've edited the texture and your happy with it you have to put the skin mod at the top of the stack, now if you haven't already you have to weight the verticles, this is where your going to start screaming like a little girl and banging your head off the wall.

woah thank you very much hs that was very useful and helped me a lot but to exactly paint the helmet i would need to unwrap the uvw not only create a perspective view wich you might see in the picture

hehe maybe you might recognize that im a wc3 freak
