Cute how I have 4k units to his 1887, pyrrhus is running uphill, his units are winded when my front lines charge and clash with his and I still have my reserves throwing pilums into his units over top my front line.

Somehow my entire front line panics after about 30sec of battle, my second line then panics and routes. Happened now about 5 different times on different ground. That's just silly

Pryyhus did lead probably some of the best troops of his time & the romans were not at this time the will drilled war machine of Caesars day.

The battle is meant to be tough, and you're actually not supposed to win it (only try to get as few losses as possible). Only a few people reported to have won the battle, which because of CoS' reasons above means we have achieved our goal with it.

I actually thought I was about to win halfthrough the battle, because Phyruss himself had run off after getting bogged down on my triarii, and his central phalanxes were being swarmed by my main infantry body. Then he decided to commit his elephants, of which I had kept both velite units in reserve to bombard them with javelins. Only problem was that the elephants decided to be javelin proof...

the first battle is balanced to be almost impossible to win as Rome on medium. on hard or vh you'd have to be a god of rtw to win (imo). throwing missile weapons at armored hoplites from the front will be pretty futile also...

Not that I'm showing off, or anything, but it is just possible to beat Pyrrhos *cough*

As you can see, even then it was a "Pyrrhic" victory for Rome.

People have noticed in general that it's easier to win as Rome on Huge units.

I must confess that it has been many many moons since I've played Rome on anything less than Huge, so I can't comment with any personal knowledge as to that.
