Default Crossing straits (channels of water)

Firstly - I love ETW - behaves great and always has.

Apologies for not having the game at this PC, but I have a question - I cannot get an army of Brits to cross a strait (marked with an arrow) into (if I recall) Huron country, although my missionary will do so. I have a neutral policy toward the Huron natives at present and my only other alternative would be to send my army through French territory to get to the Huron region.

I don't want to discuss that option - I really just want to know how it is that the missionary can waltz right across the strait, but the army will not.

    Thanks for any help!

Is their a enemy fleet nearby with a ZOC overlapping the straights? IIRC that prevents crossing such waterways.

Thanks for getting back to me - there is nothing nearby. The nearest forces are some Huron (land based) folks in a town who are at least around 1.5 moves away. No ships.

Ya, i pretty sure you cannot cross that one. I had the same problem in my campaign. I think it was intended to be a crossing, but was never implemented.

You can't move an army into another nation's territory unless you either have military access (you get this through the diplomacy tab) or you declare war. It should tell you this when you try and move the army there, so maybe this isn't the problem?

It's a bug, i have had the same problem many times.
I can't remember the name of the province but it's in the huron territory, its very frustraiting as it's the only way down unless you are at war with france, what i do is disband 80% of the troops there then build up in jamaica and attack through the 13 colonies as you have acces to their land.

    Please see attached screenshot.

Cannot cross here regardless of whether at war or not.

I made a mistake earlier - I said that the missionary could cross there - actually he cannot either.

So - there is a bridge which cannot be used...

    Season makes no difference.

Thanks for all the great input - any help is appreciated.

Thanks to all for all your help - great to get so many replies so quickly.

In the end I decided to head east instead and go head to head with the remaining folks in New York which I have now taken.

I may consider beefing up forces in the extreme north at Rupert's Land, either by recruiting or by a very long voyage, and attacking the Huron from there.

    What a great game!
