Default My windows partition just got destroyed after installing RTR...

    Hey everyone,

I use a Macbook pro and have a windows partition which I use for gaming. I installed RTR yesterday, it was working fine, played for a few hours, then after turning off my laptop and trying to start up my windows partition this morning...
    boom, i get this message.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing
    or corrupt:
    <Windows root>system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

anyone have any idea at all what I should do? (I dont have my windows CD on me right now)

That is a risk when installing any program at all

Only thing to do is try and restore to the latest restoration-point (possibly before the install), or a repair from the cd. You could try and find the file from internet and use it to repair.

    Good luck!

rightio. going to try to get the university IT support department to help out... this is quite annoying. 4 weeks before term ends and my windows CD is sitting in my home half a world away.

    =(

I doubt RTR was the direct cause.

You might check at this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314477. See if you XP boot.ini is messed up. Which boot loader do you use for dual boot?

Im not much of a techie so I didnt understand the 2nd half of your msg but from what I understand I cant really do anything without the windows recovery disk.
Im not really blaming RTR, but it just seems a little suspicious that it died the morning after DLing. Not an attack on the mod or anything, I've played earlier versions of this and always enjoyed them.

As far as I know no-one in the team has a MacBook, so I don't think you will find much useful help here.

For more chance at some good help you should post your issue here: Total War: Eras Technical Help

    Hope it helps

it's easy -- just copy the HAL.dll from others (make sure his XP version is as same as yours) to your c:\windows\ folder

but I'm not sure if Mac can access NTFS partitions directly

You can if you set it up that way.

cant transfer the file to the windows side from my MAC partition. looks like i'll have to wait for 3 weeks until term ends and I can get it sorted out...
