Default "internet explorer has stopped working" when I'm not even using it

Like any self-respecting Interet browser, I make use of firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Which is why ths problem is doubly frustrating. Once my laptop is turned on, in about 5 minutes I'll get an error message of "internet explorer has stopped working", with the only option to close program (when it's not open in the first place). If I click this, the error message will only reappear in 5 minutes, so my only option is to have it permanently in my taskbar.

I've tried removing all trace of Internet explorer from my processes and services. It just somehow reappears. I tried uninstalling interet explorer, but it doesn't appear on any lists- indeed, the program folder is there, and I can even run it if I want to, but most of the files cannot be manually deleted. I've tried reinstalling it so I can uninstall, but the latest download from the MS site says I already have a newer version installed.

If anyone could help that would be awesome This is driving me insane.

Vista, but it's okay managed to solve the issue. I'd already run spybot and avira without success, but tried superantispy and it found a trojan which was causing it
