Well that is easy first you have to create a dismounted unit for the bodyguard and name it like new bodyguard then under the descr strat file the first unit under the general's name is taken as it's bodyguard, so just replace the NE bodyguard line with the new dismounted bodyguard and your general will fight on foot with rest of his bodyguard on foot as well.

how exactly would i be going about that?

does anyone have models they have created just for dismounted body guards that u can just add to your mod? or can i copy another unit from the game and rename it and use it as the body guards?

You can just use any dismounted unit as a bodyguard. Just give it the general_unit attribute in the EDU and make sure it's listed above the normal bodyguard units in the EDU.

Or if you want a specific unit (say just for one faction), then you can copy an entire EDU entry for a dismounted unit, give it a different name and the general_unit attribute and put it above the normal bodyguard units in the EDU. But if your mod is at the 500 unit limit, you'll have to delete an entry first

well i tried to make a copy of the unmounted imperial knights, i added the general trait and when i tried to start it, the game just crashed, any solutions?

Well it would be great if you can tell us what exactly you did or what files you fiddles with also post your log file so that we can all see in the right direction. Also you said you created a new unit by just creating a dismounted unit of imperial knights so you would have edited the battle_models.modeldb maybe there is your error.

well in the EDU i just copied the unmounted imperial knights and just changed ownership to france and added the General trait them

dont know if this is it cause it crashed earlier when i was messing with the name changing and trait giving so it might be from that but here it is

Well actually it's not unmounted imperial knights but it is dismounted imperial knights if you change it's default name you will get a crash. So don't change the name because my friend it is referenced in the battle_models.modeldb file. You can add the trait "general_unit" it's harmless and you won't get crash then.
On the the contrary there is a unit called Dismounted NE Bodyguard already by default in the game but it's cut out in the game coz of the no_custom trait mentioned in it's EDU file so just del the no custom trait and you can use that unit instead.

Creators of Stainless steel mod have removed that unit you won't find it coz they inserted a whole tons of cool new units.

    Ok
Step 1 Copy this entry below in blue into your EDU file of your SSmod.

    type Dismounted NE Bodyguard
    dictionary Dismounted_NE_Bodyguard ; Bodyguard
    category infantry
    class heavy
    voice_type Heavy
    banner faction main_infantry
    banner holy crusade
    soldier Dismounted_NE_Late_Bodyguard, 16, 0, 1.2
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, very_hardy, can_withdraw, general_unit
    formation 1.2, 1.2, 2.4, 2.4, 3, square
    stat_health 2, 0
    stat_pri 16, 3, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, sword, 25, 1
    ;stat_pri_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 25, 1
    ;stat_sec_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 9, 9, 3, metal
    ;stat_armour_ex 9, 0, 0, 0, 9, 3, 3, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh

    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 570, 55, 80, 60, 570, 4, 140

    armour_ug_models Dismounted_NE_Late_Bodyguard
ownership england, scotland, france, hre, denmark, poland, hungary
    ;unit_info 16, 0, 42

Step II- It's a bit tricky for the newbies but stay with me here bro. Now open your battle_models.modeldb file of your ss mod inside the unit_models folder and add this entry mentioned below in blue, make sure you don't press any spaces by mistake and paste in between the file anywhere and make sure you paste it by pressing enter after u see such a line
    16 -0.090000004 0 0 -0.34999999 0.80000001 0.60000002 , it's basically the end line for a unit.

Step III- Now take a account of the entries given in blue in step II and gather all the files one by one mentioned in the above lines paste them in their respective directories as each line suggests. Make sure every file mentioned in the entry of your new unit is inside their respective directories otherwise you will get a CTD when playing with your new unit in grand campaign or custom battles.

Step IV- Now open the export_units.txt file in your text folder of ss mod and paste the entry given below in blue and save changes make sure this entry is put in alphabetical order.

    {Dismounted_NE_Bodyguard}Bodyguard
{Dismounted_NE_Bodyguard_descr}These are truly formidable troops whose task it is to guard the army's general. Wearing plate armour and wielding swords, these elite troops fear little on the battlefield and make fearsome opponents. Loyal and disciplined this elite heavy infantry unit accompanies the general wherever he goes on the battlefield.
{Dismounted_NE_Bodyguard_descr_short}Well armed and equipped these elite troops have the task of guarding and fighting alongside the army's general.

Step V- Now just copy these two files inside the UI folder of your extracted vanilla and paste it in your ss mod
i.e. 1) dismounted_ne_bodyguard_info.tga goes inside ui\unit_info\"name of the faction that owns it like england" so in EDU 7 factions own it so put the same file in all 7 folders.

    2) #dismounted_ne_bodyguard.tga goes inside ui\units\"name of the faction that owns it like england" again paste it in all 7 folders inside your ss mod.

And your are done but one last thing i think ss mod has maxed out there units so if so just delete any one unit entry form your EDU only if your game doesn't starts. It's a pretty long procedure so make sure you keep a backup before u accidentally do something wrong.
    Good Luck Bro.
