Installed the mod but now whenever i try to play the game it opens up a screen saying choose the program you want to use to open this file. Any suggestions?

You`ve installed it over the wrong version of RTW(or BI; which ever you start the game with). For RTRPE you need to have RTW fully patched to v1.5 and BI to v1.6(if you use BI to play it). After you start the game go to the options menu and in the upper right corner you`ll see what your current version is.

EDIT: Cancel that, I`ve misread your post. Are you sure the problem isn`t actually that it can`t find the game`s executable? I can`t see why you`d be prompted to choose the program to open the file. What do you mean with file btw? The desktop shortcut?

Well now whenever I try to open anything to do with rome total war including the uninstall option it come up with the screen asking what program I want to use to open it. The screen is the same type as that which you may get if trying to open a pdf or unrecognised file type for the first time.

Mate, I don't know what you've done but obviously something's gone very wrong somewhere.

I'd try uninstalling RTW / BI using the Add / Remove Software tool in the Control Panel, then reinstall them. Make sure they're patched to the necessary degree (RTW 1.5 / BI 1.6), you can find this out by going into the options menu when you launch RTW / BI. Then download the mod making sure you follow all the instructions given in the download thread.

Of course, if anybody can find a way to fix your install that would obviously be preferable.
