    Default Italian camp turn limit?

whats the deal? i fired up the italian campaign and took a few provinces. now being as we have to wait like 5 turns to build are armies back up after a battle, theres alot of start and stopping. i had just made piedmont my protectorate when the game informs me of my imminent defeat in 20 turns.....ummm ok so i ran nappy across the map through enemy territory without taking any provinces along the way, made it to austrias farthest province just in time, but with an unprepared force of noob troops, need less to say austrias full stack beat me, and i would have no time left to mount a new attack.

Bottom line is iv found there are too few turns in the italian campaign to accomplish the goal. if i could just click reinforce button and in 2 turns my army is at 100% maybe, maybe id have enough time to conquer the map. throw in unrest in regions, distance to your goal......too short

Pick your battles. Figure out which territories make protectorates and hit them. Usually easy to tell as they're typically given to you as an objective.

Nope, I did it on H/H with like 12 turns to spare. The key is to not waste any time, not throw away units and to fight your battles on the map carefully. There's a lot more strategy needed for NTW.

I had the exact same thing happen to me.

I was taking my good sweet time, conquered Turin and was thinking of diverting down the coast to hit Genoa, when the advisor told me I only had until December or 1797 (this was in May or June) to beat the scenario. So I had to do the same thing you did, hastily sent Nappy up to Klagenfurt after capturing Mantua. Luckily I beat the Austrians there with little problem.

What I ended up doing was right off the bat recruited a bunch of National Guard or Militia in Nice, and then built up the supply point near Cuneo. Once I had a reasonable regen rate, I could beat up on their armies some, as it was I almost bankrupted myself (then I sacked Turin and got a bunch of loot so that helped) but I was mostly just combining units to get full strength ones and sending the remnants back to regen their losses near Cuneo where they had a good regen rate.

Yeah a few more turns would have been nice.

its awesome that you can't just toss your army into the slaughter and have a fresh one 5 turns later. this game makes you feel the losses, the way it is supposed to be. I like it a lot.

Also trying to get in more moves before the campaigning season ends (late november, early december) I tried to keep it historical and not move too much in the winter months, just let my army recoup and get ready for spring. From what I could tell, the AI mostly did the same thing. I saw units moving around, but no one really attacked during the winter. Good stuff.

Given the circumstances, I think it's pretty realistic you have to work on a time limit. Also, it's pretty important to choose ones priorities carefully:
    1. Go for Sardinia-Piedmont as soon as possible. You should have made them a protectorate by turn 8.
    2. Do not mess with any of the Italian states after that. Try to get military passage from Venice after you take out the Austrian western provinces.
    3. Once you're past Venice, go straight for the Austrian capital. Don't bother mopping up remaining Austrian forces. If you take their capital, you win.

I like to loot most of the Austrian settlements along the way to make a ton of extra cash. Take a few of them and youll have 20K waiting for you to spend. Dont bother trying to defend them. It would be a waste of resources.
