My two cents

Battles are a much, much better. But the campaign map is deathly dull. I've only played the Big European map so far though, and only as allied nations. Its just vast expanses of nothing to do. I've only really played as Prussia so far; I was curious to see if it was possible to stay out of the wars whilst cleaning up on the small northern German satellite states. It is possible to do it. In fact its not even dificult. Even when you're allied to the Coalition, the French seem utterly content to leave you alone. Every one is so tractable. I think I'm not going to play this game much at all. All the work has gone into the battles, and the campaign is dead.

I've been using H/H also BFR. I would daresay the OP probably hasn't progressed far enough into a campaign yet to see a fully developed map.

Yesterday in my Italy campaign, I was feeling quite smug as the summer turned to fall and I was in possesion of all the western Austrian provinces (Mantua and points south and west. Was getting ready to hunker down for the winter, now just 2 months away, when the Pope decided he didn't like me anymore and declared war. And Ancona was 4 turns away. As I moved my big army, commanded by Napoleon, down the long road to Ancona, when he was almost there, the Venetians evidently didn't like my proximity and also attacked. And now it is winter. Yikes!

Same on my first campaign, Nappy, Swiss & Italians chasing me around...
