I had everything to Ultra and all the boxes checked with a 5850 graphic card and an i7920 running at 3.33. I get framerates around 25 on 1920 x 1200. If I change the resolution to 1650 I get around 30FPS consistantly.

It seems to be about the same as ETW, actually a little worse. Seems alot of people are saying NTW is optimized to play better, but I'm not seeing it.

What settings are you guys using?

Well i cant tell u what my fps is for ntw as it isnt unlocked here in the uk. pirated copy? (no offence boyo!!)

but for etw was getting around 70-100fps with 1920x1200 which i have just improved by another 30fps or so by running xfire.

i am guessing you have driver issues. perhaps you should go to the tech problems thread as with a 5850 at your current res etw and ntw should fly....

p.s 3.6ghz will unleash your 5850's potential better or even 3.8ghz. lower the res the more cpu bound things become. if u need advice re overclocking i aint 2 shabby at it...

    Slainte.

ahh one more things. using ssao/volumetric effects was fubar with etw. i will let u know later what kind of fps i am getting. fingers crossed bach.

Not true. A I7 at 3.33 is more than sufficient to power an HD5850. On high resolutions it'll always be about the video card rather than a reasonable fast CPU, which the I7 is, at 3.33. Anyhow 25fps seems a lil low with a 5850. You should check your driver settings.

I also own a 5850, but I don't know yet how it'll perform with N:TW since IT ISN'T FRIGGIN UNLOCKED HERE. Boxed copy is sitting here since yesterday and I have to wait another day >_>

Could it be the 28" monitor that is slowing down the FPS? I'm going to check the drivers tonight.

you are misreading what i said. i said overclocking more will help fps. i never said it wasnt sufficient! a stock 920 will run a 5850 but going from 2.6ghz to 3.6ghz might net u a 15fps increase...

it is a fact as you decrease resolution size you are making the perf more cpu bound. so therefore to the op you want to run your monitor as its native resolution which is i am guessing 1920x1200 for a 28inch screen,

i own a 24inch @1920x1200 so cant really tell how perf would be on a 28inch screen. i would have said you need more gpu muscle but then again 1920x1200 is 1920x1200 if u catch me drift.

if u want a definitive answer ask here...

p.s op hasnt answered my question re pirated copy or not. i guess ireland is diff perhaps...

I live in the United STates and bought it at Gamestop. I'll check the framerate again tonight. I was fighting in some pretty dense woods on the side of a mountain. And with all the smoke and such, I couldn't even see my own army. Maybe there was too much going on.

oops no offence. well that makes things harder then!

use driver sweeper in safe mode to clean out old drivers. which drivers are you on btw? i cant tell which ones work best.

    i do know these run etw at around 130fps 4xaa 16af 1920x1200 in xfire (5870+5850) (920 @4ghz)

i hope to run this at 100fps plus!

you might have to as well go through your aa/af options. use in-game settings in ccc for etw/ntw. plus go through the effects box...i.e just run with no effects to start then add more and see how your fps is affected...

oc your gpu helps as well..this program will monitor your fps.

Monitor size doesn't matter at all, but the resolution does. So your problem would be the same on a 24" monitor with a res of 1920x1200 or a 32" with the same res for that matter.

I suppose you overdid it with the AA/AF.

I've got everything set to max.

    My hardware: Intel core 2 E8400 @ 3GHz.
    HD radeon 4850 1GB.
    4GB of RAM.
    Vista 64 bit.
19" monitor with resolution set to 1440x 900

It runs smooth as a dream, i'm getting 28FPS consistent on large battles. i was surprised with all the smoke and effects flying about the place, that would cause framerate to drop, but it doesn't hah.

Blast, I have a 5850, was hoping for more like 40 at 1650x1080 fully maxed with some AA. Hmm, so long as it stays above 30 for me.

lol I doubt a OC would net him a 15 fps increase, that's an increase of 50%...
if he went from a p4 maybe :/

nope, i wasn't misinterpreting your post. you stated that you were getting 70-100fps. now oc'ing his I7 a couple hundred Mhz won't magically solve his problem, which lies somewhere else.

going from 3.3 to 3.7 might not even give him 2-3 fps on that resolution...

once again: bigger monitor SIZE doesn't equal to relatively bigger performance drop. monitors with 1920x1200 vary from 22" to 30" and there shouldn't be a performance difference.

man stop trolling when u know sweet fa and lack reading skills! do you have an i7 and what is your current oc?

what the feck..? i said if you overclock you might gain some more fps. i never said it would fix his problem. i quite clearly stated i though it was drivers or a pirate copy...

piss off with your trolling right now. does nothing to help op. if u want a private discussion then am all ears.

why does everyone want ultra high fps, 25 is more than sufficient to play this game, you dont need high fps for a RTS, amybe for an fps but ntot RTS

I thought my buddy downloaded the latest drivers when we built the Computer in January. Anyway, I have not downloaded drivers before, do I just download this....

    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx

    And it will automatically update?

go here i already explained how to uninstall ati driver and use driver sweeper in safe mode. those ones i listed are leaked betas but so far seem to be good for me

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=335569

you need to update drivers regularly for new games or even try betas or roll back to previous ones. it's just the way it is am afraid...

however on the plus side etw seems to run better on ati than nvidia (in my experience). btw no flame please!!

p.s those ones u linked should be ok (i'm on newer ones i think). generally always good to get officials from amd site until u know what u are doing with driver sweeper etc.

p.p.s some people say installing newest ones over older is fine. i personally use driver sweeper in safe when changing any video driver.
