    Default Activision's so called 'DLC'

    Hi all,

I was poking around in the game files earlier today for a bit of modding, when I stumbled across a campaign file called 'natives'. Can you guess what it is? Thats right it contains the campaign game files for the supposedly 'DLC' americas campaign, with all the starting information for the campaign. This means that not only did Sega ship the game with DLC already on, but that we are probably paying to unlock a small amount of content that was probably cut from the original game. Sound fair?? No.

Just thought i'd let you all know

Done some more digging, found some of the unit files that are supposedly 'unique' and 'new' to the dlc as well as complete listings of the factions, the map, starting units/buildings/settlements/money and all the victory conditions

    Doesn't surprise me.
What does surprise me is your mis-naming the publisher as Activision when it's Sega....
naa, that doesn't surprise me either.

I am guessing this part was patched in, otherwise they would have given the Indians their own appearances in the grand campaign at least, without the special units.

Uhm, this is old, old news.
This is done for multi-player. These resources are used for when an opponent who does have DLC uses them in a multi-player against someone who doesn't.

but why does that require map and other non-battle information?

They added in a lot of content free for the people who didnt buy the DLC actually. The natives get an upgrade, but you still cant use them.

Since this is an old issue, has there been any indication of this being legit to mod into the game or not? Because the forum is quite harsh on suggesting illegal actions of various sorts, so I feel establishing this early on can be reasonably productive to the thread.

as i said, the models for some units are already there put in place by CA. some unique units arent supposed to be modded into the game and your not supposed to play as the natives(other then unlock all factions of course) , but other then that some of it is already there.

I think the DLC content is somehow locked, it's not possible to use the models or the native campaign for people who didn't buy the stuff. To crack that would probably be illegal and I don't think the forum administration would allow you to release a mod that did that.

No thing is everything. Every thing is nothing.

Wow free units, how nice. Guess I should be grateful for the 'free' patches too?
    On release

yea this was discovered a long long time ago. It really dosent help the game any, since if you dont buy the good units again your stuck with the normal soldiers or whatever the vanilla guys are considered. Still, is there a mod for this yet?

IIRC, the DLC is downloaded when it is released, so when you buy it, it is simply unlocked, no extra downloads.
That doesn't mean that the DLC came with the game on release though.

So i´ve installed anew from disk and didn´t patch the game via steam. Checked the game files and there are no traces of what the threadstarter said in ETW 1.0.

The admins already said that they will not allow discussion on how to unlock the DLC content without buying it. A long time ago, we discovered the pre-order units embedded.

The models and units are there to ensure that people can actually use them in multiplayer.
