I wouldnt mind some info about this too (still waiting for my copy of NTW to arrive) as it is the feature I've been most looking forward to.

How much does it actually affect gameplay?

I dont have the game, so i cant provide a definite answer. I would imagine difficulty level to play a role in the severity of it though, and at least one review noted that they were "underwhelmed" (i think the word was) with the effects of attrition upon the player armies.

While in areas that cause attrition, your units flag will flash with a blue background (I assume for winter/cold attrition) and have a skull on it. I've never personally experienced it myself, when I was playing the Italian Campaign, I never got far enough north to get hit by it in winter turns.

However, I imagine you'll take a small percentage of loss from each regiment while in that zone, every turn until either spring arrives, you get into a town, or you lose all your guys.

On a related note: replenishing your troops now is related to having supply depots in your territories. Your units will regen faster with more/better supply points until they're at full strength.

I wasn't too big a fan of that at first, I mean why can't we just select to retrain them and have it be done with? But this is actually better for realism and for the turn length set up.

It is most definitely in effect on Normal difficulty, as I saw it affect a few squads out in the wilderness during the winter in the Italian campaign I have been playing so far. Whether it is active on Easy or the severity of it is increased with the difficulty mode I'm not too sure.

in normal without a doubt. I just sent six line and a general across the desert and in tweo turns they were down to 128-135 men a unit. attrition is by no means a minor effect.

Yes I play on normal. I have attrition.

Will never play below that so I can't comment on that.

AI is affected by attrition at the same rate as the player on Normal? Can someone confirm this?
