I hate you all. I mean it. I'm serial.

I had sworn off all future TW games. No way, no how! I was not going to buy anymore TW games until after the final patch, since the abomination that ETW was at release.

Now, look at what you guys went and did. You, with all your nice things said about NTW... all the "ohh look! coooooool!" and "hey, this doesn't suck!" ... you turned me out as a liar.

24% more to go in the download. It's 1:18 AM. I can't lay down for sleep until the download is complete and I've made sure you all weren't goofin me into buying crap.

Man. If I knew being a fan of a game series was such a rough life, I'd have opted to become a monk or something instead.

Same here. I was very skeptical about Napoleon. Then I watched a live feed for an hour this morning and read the reader reviews, needless to say I'm at 40%.

well all i can say from my experience of playing the game for about 8 hours straight is that compared to vanilla every other total war game, this has been CA's best release.

Terrible ye are all routing, my advice would be to wait until the dust settles and see if there is any re- playability.

Come back come back ye cowards!

So those of you who remember what RTW and M2TW really were on release and don't look back at them with rose-tinted goggles, do you say that NTW is the most polished TW at release to date?

I jumped in as Prussia and looked around the campaign map a bit. looks down right pretty.

Ran my boyos over to Mecklinburg to test out a land battle...

I way outnumbered the poor Mecks, so can't say anything about the AI yet, but it sure as heck was sweet in the graphics and "atmosphere" specials. Looked like actual mini dudes slugging it out.

Also, im not exactly sure, but I don't think there was an actual install either. Seems the game downloaded ready to play.

All in all, looks like a good start.

Had all the graphicals set to highest possible across the board. Didn't over stress my tired old 8800GT or my poor old Q6600. Ran smooth as silk.

Now I can finally get some sleep. You bastiges.

Woot good to know the game runs well on the 8800GT
Minister for Home Affairs of the Commonwealth v Zentai [2012] HCA 28 per Heydon J at [75]

Analysis should not be diverted by reflections upon the zeal with which the victors at the end of the Second World War punished the defeated for war crimes. The victors were animated by the ideals of the Atlantic Charter and of the United Nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was about to peep over the eastern horizon. But first, they wanted a little hanging.

I too am using an old 8800 GT 512. Napoleon definitely runs a lot smoother.

Yes. In my opinion, it is the best release so far.

You simply cant compare like that. NTW is an expansion to ETW, not an entire followup game.

This is not like the jumps that was made with for example Rome ----> M2TW.

Content wise, there are expansions that are much bigger (Kingdoms).. this is perhaps more akin to Barbarian Invasion in terms of features. It certainly sounds highly polished by the feedback gotten this far, but it is limited in scope, slashing ETW's map area in half (taking away India and the Americas), has two small campaigns (feedback from the Italian campaign says you finish the whole thing in a couple of hours, is the Egyptian campaign much more elaborate?), and then a grand campaign with 5 factions to choose from (and no, saying "modders will fix it" doesnt cut it)

I'd say its the most polished expansion ever, by the feedback gotten

No offense but I was asking people who've actually played the game.

    Thanks M2TWRocks

I have only played a few hours with my rose-tinted goggles, but I would say so. But then again, I own two Toyotas. Napoleon is definitely not a simple expansion. Kingdoms was an expansion, BI your classic expansion, but Napoleon is much more than that. The gameplay, graphics and overall feel of the game is like night and day to ETW.

It still has some minor glitches don't get us wrong. But they are minor. And usually have things to do with like Iron clads, and Missing units in certain campaigns.

But the game overall is very good. Better then the last 2 thats for sure. But I loved RTW and I can't remember how that was released. I don't think I had many issues as we did with MTWII and ETW.

So yeah. NTW is very well done. Most interesting so far out of all the game in my opinion at this point. We even have the Great Battle Histories back that was introduced in RTW. Fight a Heoroic victory and you have that classic swords crossed, and mouse over it and gives you the dates, and armies info etc.

NTW is just to great. And too BOOT. If you end up not enjoying the AI too much (it is very good, but still does silly things) you can just do drop in battles.

I have my game set up that when Im playing my campaign now, if someone decides to do a drop in battle If I am next in line for the option a pop up will come up asking me if I want to fight in Such and Suches campaign as his opposing army. HELL YEAH.

That option is actually the starting option when you start a campaign. Its called Allow Player Drop in battles. It has nothing to do with your drop in battles (you can use that option ANYTIME if you wish) but Other players drop in battles.

And its loads better then the Multiplayer option. Because if you choose the multiplayer drop in battle and just wait.. The game only allows you to wait for such and such a amount of time (think its under 5 mins) and will match you with someone else that is waiting in a quick match. And to be honest the QUICK Mattches SUCK. They default to small unit sizes. BLAH.

I did myself become a monk so that I had a chance to escape from TW games addiction ... but it did not work neither last very long ... I missed smoke and drums too much !

Regardless, I hope CA does well with Napoleon. If they don't, there is no guarantee they will be around to sell us the next TW revolution. And that would be sad. Besides, if they REALLY wanted to maximize profit, they would dump the high maintenance PC market altogether and chase the console crowd. That's where the real money is. Think Ubisoft and Rainbow Six.

This has been discussed many times before so I won't go into it again. But know this, if a company produces inferior products they should go out of business, that is the way economics works.

But that is just the problem.. inferior to what ? CA has no competition in this segment, therefore they cannot be inferior (to anyone but themselves). I'd be the first to wish for some serious competition for CA, that would force them to do their best (and no matter how one looks at that, it would only benefit us, the customers), but i dont see it as likely that many, if any will attempt it (the few attempts that has been made has been very inferior to a TW game).
