Is Napoleon optimized for multi-core processors?

Thread: Is Napoleon optimized for multi-core processors?

Default Is Napoleon optimized for multi-core processors?

I have a Core 2 Duo E7500. The game runs smooth except for when a load of artillery hits a unit, and between all the men getting thrown all over, and the craters being created, I get a little lag. I thought this was strange, so I brought up the task manager in-game, and noticed that my CPU was running at 50%, and only the first core was being used, which was running at 100%. I know that Empire was later updated for multi-core support. When I went back and played Empire, I brought up the task manager in-battle just like I did in Napoleon, and sure enough, the CPU was running at 60% with BOTH cores running at around 50%. Therefore, the only conclusion I could come to was that Napoleon was not optimized for multi-core support. Does anybody have any input on this?

it apparently is optimized, see the thread at the general forum

What thread am I looking for exactly? All I know is Napoleon does not support multi-core on my computer, and Empire does... Which makes no sense at all.

    again apparently

anyhow etw as well as ntw apparently have only two threads as well as all the other tw titles, since rtw apparently.

Hmm, thats weird. Empire runs a bit smoother for me since its using both my cores, its kind of vice versa between the other poster and I. I guess I'll just wait and see if anyone else has this problem, thanks for your time.

no problem although it would be advisable for you to take a look at the game integrity, since the performance should be the same as the one in the thread that I linked to you, or try another driver for your graphics card.

It only uses one of the cores on my Phenom 9550 Quad-Core.

There are people with issues on etw with AMD cpus, the problem seems concentrated on some pcus, not all of them. Again this is something that apparently is multithreaded, as there is reports of this not only in this site

CA says NTW was released multithreaded. How well is it optimized for multithreading is up for discussion and that is at www.totalwarforums.com where the devs hang out.

I had steam validate the game integrity, everything checked out. My thinking is if Empire uses both cores and Napoleon uses one, then there is something wrong with Napoleon. Since my game files are correct it has to be a bug with Napoleons engine, or no?

In your Napoleon folder, is there a tbb.dll?

Then, it is "supposed to be" multithreaded. That is what programmers use to keep the programs from "racing" each other through the cores. Until I can find an answer from CA other than the last press release before the game was released, I have no further info.
