Mainly the new options. Correct me if I missed any...

    Liberate
    Request War
    Request Peace?
    Request breaking alliance
    Request breaking Trade (Embargo

So did anyone try them out? How effective are these treaties? For example I remember in RTW and M2 request war was usually a waste of money, they take the money and sometimes don't even declare war.

Ok well from my own humble experiance.

    Playing as prussia.

Ill use saxony as my primary example.

    1. Offered trade, accepted 5-10turns pass

    2. Offered alliance, accpeted 10-15 turns pass

    3. My allies Austria and Russia beg me to join up against france, i agree.

    4. Time for some help while i build up my armies, i ask Saxony to join the fight, i convince them with some tech.

    5. Next turn, saxony goes on the hunt. Starts attacking a nearby french garrision.

    6. After a couple turns of fighting saxony breaks through and captures the french region.

    7. 15-20 turns later, Saxony is on the move covering my flank while i move across. In the north. They have taken 3 territories from the french.

I have had no problems with backstabbers etc. I have a trade agreement with spain, england has been trying to convince me to embargo with tech. But i like trade.. lol

    PS.

I would take screenie, but printscreen doesnt seem to work.

I concur with Spaxspore, very similar experience. The moment you go to war with france as Prussia the coalition comes knocking on your door offering presents for an alliance lol.

Also if Allies become AWARE (they seem to have sight ranges) of an enemy presence near an allied settlement they will send troops to help defend.

An example while playing as france. My army approaches Vienna, a nearbye Russian army (half stack) runs AWAY from me toward Vienna and positions themselves right behind the city and waits for me. I go "ho ho, nice try Russkies" and turn south to Croatia, taking the long way around the Alps. I arrive in Croatia and besiege the capital, as it's rather lightly guarded. Next turn who shops up? Freaking Ivan attacks from the rear.

    Another example.

Austria moves an army toward Bavaria, Switzerland moves an army next to Munich. I ALSO move an army next to Munich. Austria moves its army near the city but does not come into attack range... My army is relatively small and so are the other two, we would win if I pushed the fight, but the losses probably wouldn't be worth it. End turn.

Who shows up? FREAKING IVAN. *shakes fist in the direction of Russia* They move their army to attack with Austria's army being close enough to reinforce. An even battle just turned into a lopsided one where I wind up losing a battle with FIVE armies participating. I lost but damn that was cool for a first time thing in a Total War game. I don't know if it was a fluke, but it was a cool fluke.

Few turns later I bring up a larger force from Paris and retake the city and liberate it for the Bavarian people.

I have had similar experiences, though none of my allies helping me.. only enemy allies helping each other still very exciting though.

Not too concerned if you have allies fighting France in the coalition campaign as that's what they are supposed to do.

Can you for example ally with France during the coalition campaign has anyone tried this? Or playing as Prussia attack Russia and have Austria as an ally?

In my Russian campaign I originally had an army by the Austrian/Prussian border in case they decided they didn't want to be allies anymore. I moved that army about an in game year ago and haven't had to worry about them even going close to the border with troops despite having mutual military access. Ever since I dealt with the Ottomans I've been aiding the Austrians in taking back some territory they lost from the french and it's been great.

Actually you should be concerned because in previous TWs allied AIs never do anything to help each other. In ETW the best they do is guard each other's cities, and usually the wrong ones.

Seriously Modey, I thought you'd be more appreciative of a real improvement when you see one.

Well NTW is about what I expected it to be and getting the basics finally right is nothing to get over exited about. Your allies help you in battle! Well done CA have a biscuit.

I am more interested in how sophisticated the diplomacy is and allies joining you in a fight against France in the second campaign is to be expected, the fact that they actually do something should not win medals.

Still there seems to be improvements.

Not to rain on everyones parade, but the AI may have it easier this time around since it it is more scripted to behave in a certain way. Either you are France and everybody hates you, or you are on the other side, where the coalition loves you since, well everybody hates France. In the GC of ETW it was everybody against everybody, here it is basically 1 side vs 1.

This would mean that the AI is not improved, it just has fewer choices.

Nobody is awarding them medals, only saying it is improved. Dismissing it like you did was bit unfair.

It would be a lot easier to praise CA if they actually did something praise worthy, they seem to have improved other parts of the game so some praise is due.

But this thread is about diplomacy and having your allies actually doing something for once is no great leap forward. Its like praising a teenager for having their first crap on a toilet, not a big deal and years too late. In fact its rather embarrassing that people need to post that allies actually help them.

Anyhow just in case you think I wont praise CA some of the smoke effects look great and the dust churned up by units moving looks very atmospheric, you almost think there was a battle.

Playing as France diplomacy is hard. I did manage to get peace with Russia but preventing the coalition nations from entering war again on request of their allies is really hard.

After conquering Vienna I actually managed to get an alliance going with Prussia, I gave them Vienna and thus giving a huge blow to Austria.

Overal it seems your best chances are with the Italian nations. You are on good and some decent terms with them so keeping them friendly and allied provides a good buffer between you and Austria. Allowing you to shift your armies to the northern part of the map.

So far I have not had any of the minor nations declare war on me out of nothing so that seems pretty good.
