Default Question about N:TW and Steam

    Hi all,

New to the forums, so be gentle with me! Anyway, I am thinking of buying Napoleon: Total War, seeing as I have played many of the previous Total War games and absolutely love them (Sadly, Empire disappointed me, but enough about that)! Have also been a forum-lurker/reader for quite some time, and played many of the excellent mods to previous Total War games, Europa Barbarorum, Third Age Total War etc. being some of my personal favourites.

However, I was thinking of buying Napoleon: Total War from Amazon UK, seeing as that is the cheapest edition I can find (I am a poor student that tries to save as much money I can, whenever possible. Some might call me stingy, I prefer to use the word frugal). Now, my question is, will I be able to register my copy of Napoleon: Total War on Steam even though I am not ordering the game via Steam? I would very much like to play this game online, seeing as that seems to be one of the selling points of it. I have a working Steam account, but I do not wish to order the game from Steam when I can get it cheaper from elsewhere.

I will also sneak in the question if there exists any friendly "group" of players from this forum who plays Napoleon: Total War, and if it would be possible to join such a group? I am aware that I am a complete stranger, and can only give my word that I am a "mature" individual, and hope that we, meaning I and you all forumers can in time become "friends". I would find comfort in being able to play with mature players, who also has "honour" (Playing with relatively balanced armies, not rage-quitting, or being unable to act in a civil manner), of which I am sure most players visiting this forum are!

I hope someone take notice of my post and can enlighten me with answers!

    Thank you,

    Nikator

    Yes, steam is Napoleons DRM.

So yeah. You buy the phyiscal copy of the game, it will automatically install steam, enter the info and there you go.

Welcome to the forums young one.

You still have to register with Steam if you buy hard copy. There's some sort of gentlemens club in TWC for multiplayer. Gentlemen aren't really nice people though, they like to mock the plebes (kinda like newbs/noobs I guess?).

Yea no matter what version you buy of NTW you ultimately have to register your copy with steam with all its benefits and downfalls. As for buying the game I think http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms.../10058236.html is slightly cheaper and i've seen some people saying good things about it, apparently they've been sending their copies out early and stuff whereas amazon is notoriously bad for getting games to you on the actual release date so you might want to check out Zavvi.

    Thank you for speedy replies!

Well, yes, one can say many things about Steam, and we will leave it at that, I think.

The "Zavvi" site does indeed seem to be cheaper. I will give it a try!

@ Lin, you mentioned a "Gentlemens club", yet you imply that they are impolite? Or was it just a reference to real world "Gentlemen" (In a certain historical context, I take it?) I would hate to play with "impolite" people, and yes, I have never before played a Total War game online, so I assume I will be a "newb" . Hopefully that will not be an issue, seeing as we all have to start somewhere, yes?

The TWC has a Honour Club or Gentlemen Club or something like that where players that play with "honour and integrity" are join so that they can have games with each other without the "mortar spamming" and such.

The rest of the comments were supposed to be sarcasm. Though I guess it doesn't work well on the internet.

I figured it might be like that, but was unsure! So the blame is on myself and my denseness. Well then, that sounds perfect, thank you very much for your information.
