It would seem CA thought it was a good idea that if 2 people are looking for drop ins at the same time but none were available, both people requesting a drop in will get a random battle with a random army as a quick battle.

This ... is a stupid feature. I understand the idea, you will not have to wait, but I wish there was a toggle. I don't WANT to play a quick battle. I'd rather wait 20 minutes and get an actual drop in battle than do this... sigh...

Ah now I know what the drop-in/quick battle confusion came from.
I agree there should be a toggle.
Also, the quick battles should be made better by allowing them to be unranked and have other unit sizes.

Is it optional, this Quick-Battle last resort?

    Doesn't seem to be...

HOWEVER, if you play a campaign while the "allow drop-in battles" is checked and people are requesting a drop in battle, it will come up and ask you if you want to join while you're playing your campaign I've played a number of battles this way, so all is well IMHO... just sucks if you're not in a campaign and looking for one

So the trick to play drop-in without quick battles is to start a campaign with drop-in allowed and then let it idle...
    weird workaround, that.

That's actually pretty cool, I mean even in Empire you couldn't always find matches right away, and so you sometimes ended up waiting for quite a while for an opponent to join. To be able to play around in your campaign is a great way to kill time between matches.

How often did that drop-in option come up for you, Society? And was it drop-ins against strangers, not just people on your friend-list?

Wow, I hadn't even thought of that... I spent like 70% of my MP time looking for matches.
And I thought I wasn't going to play NTW campaign at all. Achievements, here I come!

Oh snap! I didn't know this! +REP that's great info. I thought I was gonna have to wait till they implemented a Drop In/Quick match toggle button in the lobby to really enjoy these.
