Fan lifespam question
I have an MSI 4870 1GB withi t's stock fan. I like to play games with a fan speed of 73%, which is around 3000RPM in speed. Is this determinetal to the lifespan of the fan?

Re: Fan lifespam question
only if your over volting the fan, as long as the fan is certified to run at that speed it will be fine. It will probably be pretty noisy if it's a small fan though.

Re: Fan lifespam question
I don't care about noise, and the automatic mode does let it go up to 73%, in fact it lets it go up to 100%. Though I've never heard of adding volatage to a fan.

Re: Fan lifespam question
The fan on your video card is certified to run for 40,000 to 60,000 hours at 60,000 hours that's 2500 days or just under 7 years (depending if is ball baring or sleeve bearing). The harder you run it the more voltage you will apply which decreases it's life span. If 73% is higher then the normal PWM controlled fan then you will be reducing life span however if it's below PWM then you have nothing to worry about other then damaging your card.
I wouldn't worry about it, you card will start artifacting and breaking down (as with all video cards since Voodoo 1) long before the fan gives up the ghost.
