'This game is not available in your country'

So I've just come home with a hardcopy of the Imperial Edition of NTW.
When I tried installing it - once I entered the correct cd key - all Steam said was:



Wtf is up with this POS?!
This an even bigger disappointment than the first day of ETW!

I'm from Belgium btw. (not that it should matter)

And yes, I've tried all obvious things like rebooting, rechecking etc.

Weak!

Steam "Fail".

It's probably because it hasn't been released here in Europe yet, wait until the 26th and try again

Seriously, I found Steam to be a total piece of since day 1 and now I'm even more enraged by it.

And having to wait 'till the 26 would be the biggest bull I've ever heard of.
I bought this game legit from my local game store an hour ago and it's available in all other stores too already.

So you're trying to tell me we just have to wait 2 more days?

yes, because this is when the official release date for Europe is. You should be happy that these days you can get the copy of your game in your hands prior to the release date, so that your all ready to install and play when we reach the release date

For real...you have any idea what waiting til' the release date and then downloading 20gb is like? Games that size they should let you download the day before but not activate the game until release. At least you have a local data source ready to go. I was dealing with Steam's bottleneck for 10 hours.

Completely agree. Simply allowing to pre-download well in advance of release shows that Steam is in touch with their customers. I can understand the frustration. However, STEAM must understand this frustration. I mean, do Steam employees even play games?

It will propably unlock in 2 days.

The problem is the way people feel they are being treated
You go into a shop (or internet), you pay for something, then it won't let you use it for 2 days or you get what the starter of this thread got
They can use it in the US, they can buy it in europe but not use it
Rightly or wrongly thats why people are annoyed

If it weren't released in Euro retail stores until the 26th, all the Europeans would be complaining that they should be able to buy it and preload it, even if they can't activate it. In this kind of situation, there's no making everyone happy. Sooner or later it all leads to thousands of 18 year olds building barricades in the Paris streets and shutting down the train service (the last bit it a joke, but you know what I'm saying).

A big nice sticker saying 'NOT PLAYABLE BEFORE THE 26TH OF FEBRUARY GMT' could've been in order...

Seriously, if you'd have put some effort into getting some information before buying it you would know this, and you wouldn't rage because of it over some random forum.

That's a pretty weird accusation.
Since when does a customer have to check for anything besides the system requirements?
Having to check if they'll actually let you play a game after you've bought it - that's new to me.

Like I said: better communication or a note that came with the game would've been nice.

Well, Steam never let you play the game before the official release date.
