Sorry changed the title of this thread. I'm wondering if one of the American gamers could test to see if unit sizes always default to smallest in 'drop in' battles, or if they have had 'drop in' battles with normal or large unit sizes. I have heard it always defaults to smallest which would be a real shame.

    Thanks very much!

Erh, the amount of units you fight with is determined by the setting the other player is playing on...

I suspect it comes from the fact that whne you enter a drop in battle the armies you are dealing with sometimes have had casulties so the units are sometimes not all full size.

So your saying it doesn't replicate the amount of guys in a unit but simply generates a new unit with full numbers only in small size? Can anyone confirm this?

Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

I hope so. From the offical forum the guy said that he checked with his opponent whether he was on smallest unit size settg and he said no, he was on large, but the drop in battles feature defaulted it to to small, just like the quick battles in Empire. Here is the quote from the thread 'Drop in battles LOL' http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic...In-Battle.html

3rd game played the whole game. Gave the guy a good fight, but in the end he won. My troop moral was horrid.

Also why does the game default to small unit sizes in multi. Thats totally annoying. Little puny units of 25 men is kinda lame. LOL.

I asked the player if he was playing on small unit sizes and he said no on large. I said me too large unit sizes. Whats going on?

This is a really gay development. I hope it turns out to be a misunderstanding

Then again, viewing the link, it's only in one person's comment. Let's get some confirmation on this.

Hey, I think that when you que for a Drop In and someone else is qued up with no open campaigns it makes u fight a quick battle against them. I tried to que all night and it found a match 3 times. All 3 times the battle was just a random quick map with small unit sizes. I even asked the other players "is this part of your campaign?" and their response was always along the lines of "i thought it was a part of your campaign!?"

If thats the case, its pretty ridiculous because when I sign up for a drop in the last thing I want to do is get stuck in a quick match I cant quit. Maybe I have something set wrong? I wish someone knew.

    LMAO

That's pretty funny and silly, but a huge relief. I'm sure it will get better when more people are playing.

Yeah I hope so. It would be a lot of fun if there was a bunch of em constantly going.

That sounds like a bug to me - if this is the case and you do play a 'quick battle' then how does it effect the campaign battle you're supposed to be playing? CA needs to look at this, I foresee a few issues there.

    Richey79 i like you're idea, good thinking.

    I think you're misunderstanding him

If it cant find a match for him, it will make him fight a quick battle with someone else that it also can't find a match for. They're both trying to be the droppers-in on someone else's campaign - there's no campaign to be effected.

Seems to be a bug that must be fixed, but with an explicable reason:

What is, if the player which comes in can't handle huge unit scale as the host made? The game will crash at least and so with small unit size it is unlikely at least...

If that becomes a big issue, they should make Steamworks compare users' specs and make people with horrible computers avoid guys with awesome ones.

Hmmm, I can see several aspects of this that will potentially benefit from patching.

Load times are longish on these games, and noone likes to be rude and just quit a match if it isn't exactly the kind they wanted. I'm just envisioning being thrown into some Australian guy's campaign match and the units rubber-banding all over the place.

All of this could be solved by having a screen that gives you details of the match the browser has selected for you (including ping, campaign / skirmish match, unit balance) asking if you want to accept this match.

    More choice = less ragequit.

Well, hopefully we will be able to play it with proper unit sizes (From the settings of the host)

Well I guess that's one way to avoid the long waiting times, but that will probably be eliminated when the game is globally released (more players)

Ah I've got you Graphic - so I suppose after the drop in you get to try your campaign battle again? Its defintiely an odd one. Has anyone actually mamaged to play a proper campaign drop in battle with full sized units?? I'd like to know if its actually possible.

I get the horrible feeling that drop in really just means quick battle, and whoever wins, wins there campaign battle if this makes sense.

Or just filter the games accordingly to your own unit size setting.

I have played 8 Drop in battle now. And out of the 8 (half of them the player quit before we started but I saw units before hand) 7 of them were small unit sizes and 1 was large.

I have no idea why the 1 was large but it was. All the others were small. And Like I said (since im the guy the op is talking about) its annoying as hell.

So far all of mine have been camp battles. I sometimes have to wait 5 mins or more to get into a battle. I usually ask sometimes if this battle is important to the player. Sometimes I forget. Also I have seen some battles where The guy droped for no reason and our armies were about =.

But then again I have droped into a few games where my army was most certainly a crappy campaign AI army LOL.

The loading screen sometimes I have my User name and the player has his name... And then sometimes I have the name of a general and so does the player. Maybe this is how you can tell if your actually playing a camp game or not.
