Jomini and Clausewitz.....
Since they were aide-de-camps, Did they actually ever fought in a battle during the Napoleonic Wars, or just did the military plans? I mean by that... did they actually take part in the fighting, like ride though the battlefields and expect troops,etc....?

Re: Jomini and Clausewitz.....
If I remember correctly Carl von Clausewitz participated in the siege of Mainz
He was also participated in a battle near Auerstadt versus Davout , where he was made prisoner of war.
He also worked as an aide-de-camp for the Russians , and witnessed rear-guard action near Smolensk and Borodino , and also participated in the retreat on Moscow.
After that worked as an aide-de-camp for Scharnhorst , and participated in the battle of Grosse Görschen.
Fought as chief of staff of a Prussian corps near Wavre , but to his disappointment had to retreat in the face of overwhelming odds.
As for what he actually did during those fights , I'm sure other members of this community can add more details. But I reckon' it's much more than just spending days looking over a map with a glass of sherry.
