Default General questions I cannot seem to find answers for.

    Hello community,

The following questions have been on my mind for some time now, and I really want to get them out of my head.

    1. How can you tell how many upgrades a unit has, and what these upgrades are from the mini flags on the unit?
For example, If I upgrade my Urbans with 3 shield, I see 3 small flags. But I cannot seem to distinguish what is a sword, a shield or a rank upgrade.

    2. Is there a way to increase the physical amount of slots that represent the number of units you can bring in a fight? For example, can I increase the unit limit?

    3. How can I increase the number of men in a unit? I want my Royal Pikes to have 256 men in it for example.

    4. How can I combine a factions unit list. For example, I want Rome to have a group of Armored Hoplites to mimic mercenaries ( I know there is a mercenary unit but I don't know how to get that).

    5. For RTW 1.5 or any of its Mods (like RTR for example) How can I use the Movie Cam Editor to render videos out? Is there a way I can get an output video instead of a replay that I have to record with Fraps/xFire ..etc?

The reason I'm asking these questions is that I'm trying to recreate some historical battles using Rome. Hopefully if I get some info (especially unit numbers and unit limits) in RTW I could figure out how to do it in MTW.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello!

I'll see what I can answer for you.

You can't. The flags only show the number of promotions, not promotion type. If you can look at the unit card you can see this. In single player I pause the game and double left click on the enemy unit. There are probably other ways to do it but I'm not sure if you can do it in multiplayer, one of the mp players can tell you more about this.

    2. Is there a way to increase the physical amount of slots that represent the number of units you can bring in a fight? For example, can I increase the unit limit?
This is hardcoded into the game, so no, unfortunately not.

    3. How can I increase the number of men in a unit? I want my Royal Pikes to have 256 men in it for example.
Aside from changing the unit scale in the options menu? I don't know.

    Hope that helps a bit.

There are three Upgrade Icons that appear on Unit Cards - Chevrons (XP), a Sword (Attack Increase), and a Shield (Armor Increase). Upgrades for Attack and Defense go Bronze-Silver-Gold; Chevron upgrades go the same, except there are three ranks for each, for a total of 9 Chevron upgrades.

There is no way to determine the upgrades a unit has simply from looking at the unit, nor can you determine any upgrades of an enemy unit in combat unless you look at the particular unit's Stat card.

    2. Is there a way to increase the physical amount of slots that represent the number of units you can bring in a fight? For example, can I increase the unit limit?
No. Twenty units is the maximum.

    3. How can I increase the number of men in a unit? I want my Royal Pikes to have 256 men in it for example.
Change the Unit Size in the Options (requires a new campaign).
    Or
Edit the numbers in the unit_descr_export.txt file. I do not know if there is a maximum or minimum number for a unit (though I think 1 is the minimum). I do not know if this can affect an in-progress campaign.

    4. How can I combine a factions unit list. For example, I want Rome to have a group of Armored Hoplites to mimic mercenaries ( I know there is a mercenary unit but I don't know how to get that).
Add the Faction to the "Faction Available" list in the unit_descr_export.txt file, then adjust the Building_descr_export.txt file to allow you to recruit the unit. I don't have Rome installed at the moment (it's being cranky with my computer), so I can't walkthrough at the moment, but I'll try to find a thread with that information and link it here.

No idea. I've never tried messing around with the Movie Cam, and all I know is that to enable it you have to add some sort of extension to the Rome.exe before you start playing.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Thank you Entropy Edge for the answers. I totally forgot about the text files for some reason.
Anyway for game came I added the -movie_cam to the target line of my game's SC.

Alright just question five left unanswered!

I believe the maximum unit size is 252 (250 soldiers, one standard bearer, one officer) although I suppose a captain would count, so that's 253.

    Its 240 + 3 officers. 244 if captain/general also.

Alright well I figured out how to change the unit size, but everytime I do the game launches and then crashes all of a sudden. Is there another file I have to look at and change numbers other than the 'export_descr_unit' folder?

Don't edit the files just go to the options menu and change unit size

Lol actually all I had to do was restored the backup that I made prior to fiddling around. I'm not a moron lol.

Anyway, it turns out I cannot change the unit sizes manually. I'm quite aware of changing unit size but I wanted to see if I can increase the size of the units differently than the options.

Is there a way to add an option that would have more units? Or if anyone can direct me to where the options of increasing unit sizes are that would be great.
