Default Flickering Terrain & Units on 5870

Hey, so as far as I can tell, I seem to be experiencing the same problems as a lot of nVidia users....only I have an ATI 5870...when I start up a game I can see the names of cities, the GUI, even the tutorial text...but everything else if a flickering blob of big brown, red, black, etc... shapes... Have tried adjusting the in-game as well as driver settings to lowest possible and tried disabling my 8800GT running Physx but nothing seems to help...

I really didn't knew the possibility of running two different cards, even if for the physx effects... try removing the 8800, physically. If it doesn't work try the ATI thread

Well...tried removing the 8800GT...no luck...but I don't see how the 8800Gt could be causing the problem since it's not used to render graphics, it just supplements the CPU.

well the issues that you described are classical from the nvidia gpus... you have to take a look at the ATI thread for the best drivers for the 5870

If you still have the Nvidia drivers installed, uninstall them. It is probably conflicting with ATI's.

Well, I physically removed the 8800GT, cleaned out all of the nVidia drivers and software, reinstalled the ATI driver...same problem... However, I did discover that I can use Shader Model 2 without the problem...it just looks like crap...still hoping for a fix...

There is no fix by CA and ATI isn't going to for one game. If you don't belive me, http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/66796, and read post #79, in particular.

That was something expected, since ntw is not a major overhaul of etw

People, see if you have the AA enable in the GPU control panel ,make it disable and set it controlled by application.

    Greetings all:

I just installed NTW and was having the same flicker problems described herein, although I'm running an ATI Radeon 4670. Reading about the AA setting rang a bell, and I checked in the CCC and sure enough, I had it set to a manual setting. I reset it so applications have control and the flicker disappeared. Screen appearance suffered slightly but that's far less annoying than watching the draw/redraw every cycle. Thanks for the tip!
