ETW game file not updating.

I am having a real problem with steam and ETW.

I have succesfully installed ETW and have been playing it happily since Oct 09. When it was originally installed and was '100% ready' i clicked 'go offline' and restarted steam in offline mode so i could play the game regardless of connection problems. Today i went online with steam to make sure it was working ok for so i can install Napoleon Total War when it is released. Steam succsefully downloaded a steam client update but now ETW says 'updating: 0%' with the download speed next to it. I t has been doing this for seeveral hours but is still at 0% meanwhile i cannot play ETW at all it does not seem to be doing anything. I dont know what it is updating nor do i know how big the update is and i cant seem to find anywhere on steam where this can be checked. The bandwith monitor shows total data downloaded so it is downloading something but it stays at 0%. I need help as im guesssing this will mean that i cannot install NTW when it is released on friday. Any help from people would be great thankyou.

Try uninstalling steam/ change server..

but the probability since there is a traffic (it has to be substantial one) its that steam has not update itself correctly

Just an update. It is now working. What i did was i made a copy of the steam registry, deleted the original. then i reinstalled ETW and steam downloaded the update fine. Only thing i have noticed now is that i can only play ETW while logged ino steam whereas before i could play it in offline mode. This is the same for other games i have installed on steam. But at least now i can once again look forward to NTW's imminant release.
