Medieval for me. Plenty of nations, units, huge map, unparalleled gameplay up to that point. Though I also remember my amazement when I first saw Shogun.

Medieval. It had much more unit diversity and, to my mind, a more interesting time period. Both were amazing games though

Shogun always has that special place in my heart because I remember it being so damn awesome when it came out.

But Medieval was just so much better in my mind. More diverse factions, larger scope of play, and my favorite expansion (Viking Invasion) of all time. =)

Shogun, I just loved it how different it was to other games. I also remember I had my ass kicked the first 3-5 campaigns I played.
Medieval I didn't really saw anything to especial with it. Mostly because I had already played M2TW first. However it has some features that make it awesome.

Medieval, Shogun was awesome, but Medieval hit home for me, despite being asian. Medieval was just awesome and i loved the music especially.

Medieval. No contest. I could never get into Shogun as much as I could into Medieval. Maybe it's just a matter of preference though (I'll take feudal Europe over feudal Japan any day).

Medieval. Larger scale, and a bit more variety. Though Shogun was nothing to spit on, either.

I never played MTW. I am in love with M2TW, so I will probably not make the purchase. STW is so good from just the aesthetics, I will always play a campaign every now and then.
