    Default the US and Canada

Ok in all seriousness. I have been sad all my life, You know why? Because I've never seen the brotherly union of the US and Canada into one State. One Empire. One Land. One people (Ethnically speaking that aint true) but yeah you get my point. I aint talking about a dictatorship but I publicly approve the union of the two. I have many friends who are Americans and Canadians that think purely the same. Opinions????

i think its a good idea, it may happen eventually, but like anything worthwhile, it will have big hurdles to face.

I'm not sure. What's wrong with the way things are now?

Well we have all their pennies, or at least I seem to anyway, but why would Canadians want this? Economics is one thing, but then there is social policy, foreign policy, all sorts of policies established in Canada that are different than those in the United States.

So how would this work? Whose constitution would be adopted? Meaning does the United States annex Canada or Canada annex the United States?

What about Quebec? In the past, they hardly seemed satisfied staying in Canada, which is a really nice country after all. I can't imaging how they would view merging with the United States.

What about the First Nation for that matter?

Perhaps it's an interesting idea in theory but maybe not a very practical one in reality.

Any union of Canada and the USA would result in Canada being a very junior member, or having its provinces (I forget what they are called) made into states. I can't see why Canadians would want this.

Whether its a good idea or not, the two countries are different, the people are different. However slight some of those differences may be they still have to be taken into account. I'm not sure all Americans and Canadians will see eye to eye on this. Hell, didn't Quebec want to break away at some point? You cant be united like that if people already want to break away surely? Hmm, I won't pretend to know, I'll just watch and read

They did, I think it was 1995 and they lost by a hair or something like that.

But realistically I wold support a union of Canada and the US but that is unlikely to happen as Canada still is part of the Commonwealth. And as long as America has a huge deficit a union is unlikely. From what I hear the Canadian economy is pretty healthy and they don't have a large deficit, a union right now will make Canada's economy bad. Maybe in the future when America fixes its economy a union will be feasible. But there are just so many obstacles.

While we are at it can we nab Australia and New Zealand?

    1988 actually...

But no I don't think Canada should merge with the U.S.

You're obviously not Canadian. Canadians are very proud of our national identity, which may not be very evident to the rest of the world, but its the truth. But any North American Union would't get very far if it was anything more than what the EU is right now. And frankly given the loose border and economic ties between the countries an NAU similar to the EU is pointless.

Well, they can move here just as many Americans move to Canada. This would seem to be a simpler solution.

Why must it be Canada joining the US? I'd much prefer us joining Canada.

    now Thats blasphamy.

I would not be opposed to the Us and cannada joining and becoming the united countries of america (although UCA sounds more like a college then a country, guess it will have to stay USA) then, with our new power we force mexico into into the union, and then no one would be able to stand against us

and if we legalized and placed taxes on the drugs from mexico the US would finnaly be debt free
