Changing Colours of a faction mid-way through a save?

Hey guys, im trying to mod EB to change faction colours. I know it is very simple and ive edited the Descr_sm_factions file. However, my main question is how to implement it mid-way through a save game. Ive noticed in some AARs that the person changed the colour of factions mid-way through his save. However, I CTD when trying to load a old save before I modified the file. However if I start a new campagin, all my new faction colours are there perfectly.

So the question is: How can i put in new faction colours without having to start a new game. And help would be loved and +rep.

It works for me so you probably got a corrupted save.
