    Default Nuclear War

Ok so whenever we hear of this term we think of Jugement Day, the end of humanity. But surely not all nations would be nuked I mean why would Panama City or Amman or Tashkent be nuked? They are all minor cities of minor nations. Surley they would be overlooked as the nukes focus on Moscow, London, Wasington, New York, Beijng etc. And even the nuked countries would have humans surviving in them and they might form city states.

In this new world order countries that were overlooked such as Uzbekistan and Panama will become the new world powers while most the population of the major nations is dead and the survivors have formed small city states ready to be conquered by nations who were once not worth mentioning.

Are you talking about a fantasy/sci fi project, or about what would happen? If you talk about a fantasy scenario, then yes, you might be right. If you talk about the real world and a small nuclear war (only major cities of the main opponents nuked), then the earth would change nonetheless because of all the radiation that knows no borders and goes wher the wind goes. Do you know about Chernobyl and how the children in Europe played inside that summer? There would be lot of radiation everywhere on the planet, making live for every higher liveform than grasses and cockroaches difficult. Even in areas where there had been no nuclear strike, many people would die of cancer and many children would be born with horrible changes. Even if the athmosphere would not be entirely messed up.

But if there really had been a nuclear war between the USA and the USSR, they would have dropped such an insane amount of nuclear bombs to pollute this planet multiple times, making live impossible for most liveforms. And those humans that would have fled to bunkers and survived would perhaps be able to get out and grow plants after something like 30000 years- three times the years it took humanity from leaving the ways of hunters and gatherers in small stone-age tribes to our high civilisation.

In short, if there ever is such a nuclear war, I hope that I and everyone I love is killed directly in the first nuclear strike.

Here's an article outlining a worst case scenario in case a global nuclear war: http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/nucl...clearwar1.html

Long story short: humanity would be just fine, that is, compared to the whole "earth would be made hostile to all life many times over" hyperbole that people take from Fallout. It's not like Hiroshima and Nagasaki are glowing craters inhabitet only by grotesque mutants.

Radiation levels decline quickly, after 48 hours they've gone down by 99%. The remaining 1% is dangerous, but I think you're imagining something like fallout 3, which isn't really the case.

These are some of the public information broadcasts relating to Nuclear attack that we used to get on the tv when I was a kid during the 70's. They were shown upto the mid 1980's.

Protect and Survive | The Warnings

Protect and Survive | Stay At Home

    Protect and Survive | Casualties

This is the nuclear attack has happened message to be broadcast over the radio.

Did you get siren tests where you lived, Yorkshireman? I was born just as all this madness ended in 1990, but my parents told me about the air attack drills they used to do from time to time.

We used to hear test sirens quite frequently because in my part of Leeds was the Royal Ordnance factory Barnbow. They were old WW2 air raid sirens. I think most of them were dismantled in the early 90's.
