    Default a WTF moment

Two large armies meet, each is being reinforced, with Washington coming from Boston with the entire garrison we meet up and have a duel of positioning our large line of troops, then I attack the brits on their left flank with Dragoons and my right flank of infantry to get the ball rolling, the brits got the superior firing capability with the three rank fire, but I keep repositioning, like a chess game My rebel army piece meals the British right out of it, and chopping them up a unit at a time with blistering musketfire from five units per.

Finally the brits retreat and I move through the field, engaging brits hold up in a house with three units, and one final unit stands doggedly to prevent the retreat from be coming a full route...

as my army circles this last final unit and taste the flavor of Ultimate victory of the battle...

the Map ends with it saying Decisive Defeat........ I realized through all the troop movements and machinations that I ran out of TIME... WTF!

Luckily I killed 3/4 of the british standing army and those units in the area, so they were unable to exploit taking a defenseless Boston due to the computer retreating Washington out of Boston and to a neighboring farm village...

By next round I got back into Boston and sent out Washington with a fresh fully stacked army.

That's why I disable the timed battles. In real life there would be no automatic "YOU WIN!" after a set amount of time, and it allows me to avoid situations such as yours.

Sorry to hear your battle got ruined. If it's any consolation I frequently have to refight entire battles, including those grueling, mind-numbing, complete tactical "David vs. Goliath" style victories because sometimes when loading back to the campaign screen it will crash on me.

Really, really sucks when that happens.

    Good old Timers.

More worringly for me was the auto resolve in my recent spainish campaign, my Royal Army, years of hard fighting all over the empire. Taking a small Italian town, which contained 1 Militia unit and 3 Mobs. 75% in favour of the enemy. (N/H)

That's why i don't play with time battles. it's completly unrealistic. It's not like napoleon or whatever general said "right we have to win this battle before tea-time"

And it gives you enough time to position your troops the way you want

I made the mistake of autoresolving a naval battle between my half stack of 4th and 5th rates and a single damaged brig. Somehow that brig managed to kill about 60 men on each of my 12 ships!

Yeah they should've added some kind of warning when the timer is about to run out, like in Siege battles.

Although I must say it did make for some interesting battles, because you can't sit back leisurely and slowly eat the AI one by one.

this whole game has been a WTF moment for me... I especially dislike the AI money cheat. After being bankrupt for 10 turns, with all buildings raided, they suddenly recovered and pumped out another full stack with their other three they already had

Play on easy, it removes the money cheat. Funny thing is, that's about all it does. It's basically ETW's AI in all its glory.

    And it's pitiful.

I like the time limit. Imagine it being like the available hours in the day to finish the enemy. It became dark before you were able to finish them off, thanks to the brilliant holding action that last unit fought. I wouldn't count it as a loss, personally, but the enemy slipped away in the night before you could complete the destruction.
