    Default Kingdom of Pergamon?

First off, I love Rome Total Realism. It is perhaps one of the best things ever to happen to historical gaming.

Now, back to the question I raise: Where on earth is the kingdom of Pergamon? Should it not be considered a seperate kingdom during this period? In the game it only remains as a city, and the Seleucid's have gobbled it all up. Can anyone clarify this for me?

in RTW there is a limited amount of faction slots and it was thought best to use said faction slots on more influencial factions at the time (in RTR 6).

Check out the new preview for RTRVII, you may see something you like

Who knows what they were doing in RTR6? They left 3 empty faction slots :laugher:

The east is a serious mess, TBH. Most settlements are in the wrong place, and the Seleucids in general are too big (Pergamon should be rebel at the very least, but IIRC it isn't)

Anyway, that was several years back. In VII, it will be it's own faction, though it will be unable to go east. I'm sure we will be able to make challenges for it, though... I'll make sure of that

    It's here:

Which mod do you mean? RTR 6 doesn't have pergamon, but RTR VII will have it.

Re why they didn't have it in RTR 6... I don't know... It could be that - back then - they didn't know yet how to fix the senate problem... Or maybe they didn't find it important enough... Or maybe it was simply too much work combined with the other mind blowing things they did. Don't forget that back then it wasn't the standard to do a full conversion with all new units, factions and a hugely expanded/new map.

Couldn't you not replace the other Roman factions until one of the later patches? I thought that was one of the big reasons the RTRPE project was started.

Well, actually, the ruler of Pergamon in 280 BC was ruled by Philetaerus, who had switched his loyalty from Lysimachos King of Thrace to Seleukos I Nikator in 281 BC. Following the death of Seleukos in 280 BC, Philetaerus remained a loyal servant of and vassal of Antiochos I and the Seleucids.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philetaerus

The Attalids of Pergamon did not declare their independence of the Seleucids until around 268 BC.

Although nominally under Seleucid control, Pergamon under Philetaerus enjoyed considerable autonomy. However, upon his succession, Eumenes, perhaps with the encouragement of Ptolemy II, who was at war with the Seleucids, revolted, defeating the Seleucid king Antiochus I near the Lydian capital of Sardis in 261 BC. He was thus able to free Pergamon, and greatly increase the territories under his control. In his new possessions, he established garrison posts in the north at the foot of Mount Ida called Philetaireia after his adoptive father, and in the east, northeast of Thyatira near the sources of the river Lycus, called Attaleia after his grandfather, and he extended his control south of the river Caïcus to the Gulf of Cyme as well. Demonstrating his independence, he began to strike coins with the portrait of Philetaerus, while his predecessor had still depicted Seleucus I Nicator.

Ok I have been taking a look at RTR 7 at it looks AWESOME (noticed the little Pergamon faction too )

I'm a little worried though. What's all this business about having to put in batch files or whatever whenever you want to play as one of the new factions? Will it not be like RTR 6 where you can just click on whatever faction you want to play as?

You've probably been reading very old info. RTR 7 is no more... It's RTR VII now. But the plans for it included to have a counter faction (when looking in the code, you can still see traces of that in our current releases btw). This faction would be an extra challenge for the player, but in order to achieve that, you would need to swap certain files before you start the mod in order to check what faction the player is playing as.

Anyways, this feature won't be used anymore, so there's also no need for using a batch file before you start the game. (We do have our own launcher (.exe) though, but that's to make it more user-friendly - not less)

Phew, well that's a relief. How about my second question though: Will the faction menu be full of different factions now? Look at my above post for how euphoric this would be for me.

Yes, you can choose for every faction (as listed above by Finn) in the menu

Hmm... news to me. It is just like RTR 6 at the moment, and the only other option I can think of is the way RS2 have it planned, ie a seperate modfolder for each campaign. I am not aware of any plans for this for VII, though

So would that mean we should expect to see a mind boggling number of beautiful tear-inducing factions on the faction menu to choose from?

The factions in the map below will be playable, apart from the Tribus Belgae who have been replaced by the Lusitani.
