Thread: Casual players? A simple analysis.

Here's an interesting observation about casual-ness of TW players. Strictly speaking this should belong to ETW forum, but I don't play ETW anymore, and all the recent TW buzz is here as we await NTW....

In Steam, you can check some global stats about the game. For instance, achievements. There is this very basic achievement called Founding Father. This achievement is awarded after you "Take one region by conquest, somewhere in the world".

One region! So you only have to take ONE region, to get this achievement. It's gotta be easiest thing ever, right? EVERYBODY AND I MEAN EVERYBODY should have done it, right?

    Wrong!

According to official Steam stats 77% of ETW players got this achievement, WHICH MEANS that there are 23% of ETW customers who NEVER EVER conquered ONE region in the game! Talk about casual players.... one has to ask.... why did they even buy the game?

Expansionist power achievement is awarded for taking 10 regions - only 54% of players have it!!! Again, almost half of the legal ETW customers didn't even take 10 regions in the campaign! 24% (one in four) players took between 1 and 10 regions and that's it (at least for now).

Think about this, next time you start complaining about wrong headgear, wrong cap badges or the lack of nation-specific fife tunes....

Probably because alot or a few players play in the offline mode an are not recorded to the steam servers. I for one usually play in the offline mode.

I am not sure this matters as far as achievements go. Check your Steam account, do you have some ETW achievements on your record or not?

Also, if you have mods installed, it seems to disqualify you for achievements.

LOL? So you think there are players who didn't take ONE region in unmodded game, jumped right into mods? You gotta be kidding.

BTW probably less than 2% of ETW customers installed mod(s).

Many members play offline and therefore go unrecorded. Then there are the mod players, which disables achievements. Taken together that would probably acount for 10-20 percentage points right there.

Also remember, due to steam, even though the game may install, it may still refuse to play. I would venture to say that that happens from anywhere between 1 and 5 percent of steam users.

Then add onto that the number of players who bought the game, installed it, and then didn't have the rig to play the game properly, and therefore didn't end up playing it.

Then add to that the number of people who bought the game, installed it, and then simply never played or only played a couple of custom matches.

    So yeah, that's about right.

They probably bought it for multiplayer only seeing the AI perform so terribly MANY abandoned the total war series. I was a disapointment.

I only play MP with mods because I'm looking for a decent human intelligence rather that fight the great "superior tactics" of AI. I doubt to have that achievement even though I regard myself as a very demanding and grognard player.

This thread is so not about you. Nor about me. In fact it's not about any of us here on THIS forum, as we are all more or less hardcore players of this series.

It's about staggering realisation that there are 23% of ETW customers who never took ONE region by conquest, and 46% (almost half) who took ONLY between 1 and 10 regions in the game, EVER.

They quite simply wasted their money. Yet, I might add, you don't see them complain, the only complaining is done by hard core dudes who played at least 20-40 hours in ETW, thus, by simple economic equation, getting their money's worth from the product.

Dude... it's not about "caring" for the achievements (I don't care about them either).

So it seems that the ETW AI is in fact better then 77% of the ETW costomers thinks it is.

There are many people who buy games on discount and leave it for later.
