I am writing (planning to anyhow) a book proposal about Swiss mercenaries in Napoleonic Warfare. Anyone got any good sources I can look at about Swiss men in the French,British,Austrian armies?

Spain had three Swiss regiments too.

Read a napoleonic first hand account of a Hessian serving under the french flag
Athenians: For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretenses - either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done us- and make a long speech which would not be believed;.......... since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

I suggest trying to obtain " Army of Napoleon " by Oleg Sokolov.
I am not sure if its been published in English but I know for a fact it was on Russian, French and possibly German. The book contains the best descryption on Swiss regiments from Napoleonic armies I have seen so far. Origins, size, conscription, morale, dessertion rates (actually the lowest among Grandee armee!) descryption of thier participation in battles, esspecially battle of Berezina is covered in details where Swiss covered themsleves with Glory.
" Army of Napoleon " by Oleg Sokolov.

This best and fullest research of army of Napoleon. 585 pages. There is all. Regiments history, a staff, a uniform, arms, tactics, conscription and many other things. Oleg Sokolov is the specialist in Napoleonic history's most famous Russia. Born in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), he studied at the Polytechnic Institute (the equivalent of the Ecole Polytechnique de Paris), in the Chair of Nuclear Physics. But his passion for history, eventually takes over and, upon his graduation, he joined the University in the Faculty of History. Brilliantly, he supports his thesis and especially the doctoral devoted to "French officers of the Revolution. "He is the author of numerous books on the Napoleonic campaigns, on Napoleon's army and military history in general. adviser to several historical films, he participated in numerous programs devoted to Napoleon and his Empire to Russian television, American, French and English. In addition to its purely scientific, Oleg Sokolov holds great historical pageants. Founder of the vast movement of reconstructions in Russia, Oleg Sokolov was the first to give birth to a group seeking to revive the soldiers of Napoleon's army. He now chairs the Russian Association of Military History. After him, several thousand people participate in reenactments across Europe. With 1,300 participants, the 140 horses, 20 guns and 120 000 spectators, one of the most sensational is no doubt that the Battle of Borodino (La Moskwa).

“He [Kutuzov] does not desire anything but Napoleon’s retreat from Russia, while the salvation of the whole world is dependant on him “ Sir Robert Wilson to Alexander I, 25 October 1812.
Danke for the help all. I hope I can find that Book in German, it would really help me now.
Now the tough part is the pictures..... I need at least 20 pictures for the book.![]()
Hello fellow Swissman! Well, I can see that you're from the German part (Geneva here) but we're still bro's.
Swiss history is actually surprisingly interesting, I advise you visit the 'Lion Monument' in Lucerne, truly beautiful. Are you just doing a book on the mercenaries, or what actually happened in Switzerland at the time too?
Thanks for the link! I still need some more pictures for writing the actual book, but I got enough now for the manuscript (they wanted some pictures as samples for it). Thanks guys
! I make sure everyone who helped me gets a copy of my book then.... a signed copy
!
Maybe this will help you too, but there are no pictures, only all swiss-regiments, which have been recruited by the french.
